Handpull cask the the Crystal Palace (JDW), Glasgow. Light to mid-brown, a little translucent with a small loose buff head. Deep chocolate malt aroma, some dark fruit, hedgerow. Sweet taste, fruity and malty with a tinge of bitterness in the finish is. Light body with soft carbonation. Top class stuff, but really simple.

Very dark ruby beer, thin creamy head. Light malty aroma. Flavour has toasty malt, berries, a touch of toffee, just a little wintry spice. Decent.

Bottle, gift from Tom. Black body with ruby highlights and a few flecks beneath a thin beige head. Steady carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of rust and nuts. Flavour of berries, coffee and a bitter finish. Medium body with a smooth texture. Soft fizz. Very enjoyable.

Bottle from Aldi Inverurie. Opens without very much of of a psssst.... It pours black with limited bubbly head after a vigorous pour. The aroma is toasty, earthy, quite sweet, oily milk chocolate, coffee grounds and cake. The taste is toasty, earthy roast, coffee grounds, chewy malt, toasted nut, wood and a touch of dark wood with a toasty finish. Light - medium body and low carbonation. It's fine, but the lack of carbonation let's it down.

500ml bottle from Aldi. Deep, dark brown with a surprisingly short lived off white head. Big chocolate hit on the nose, flavour is chocolate, a little treacle and some hop bitterness. A little thin maybe

Take away from Growler beers. Pours black, sweet chocolate, dry hazelnut roast, bit too thin though.
