This is a tremendously delicious, textural, and fizzy county ale, bright gold colour, citric and sour, reminiscent of a good champagne or lambic but in a class all its own.
Fantôme – Golden ale, 8% alc. by volume, with a wonderfully musty and characterful aroma. There are many drinkers out there who believe this is the “Nectar of the Gods.” Certainly no other brewer makes beer like this, in Belgium or anywhere. How many beers of 8% plus offer such fresh fruitiness? A solid Belgian saison beer at its base, with an unusual overlay of fruitiness.

0,75L bottle (from Koht). Pours hazy amber with whiteish head. The head stays for a long time. Aroma is sweet, fruits, apricots, esthers, spices. Flavor is sweet and bitter, fruits, apricots, medicinal notes, spices, somewhat acidic. Finish is dry bitter. Alcohol is well covered. Overall: well made, but maybe a bit boring.

750ml bottle at the Hoppy Pub, Thessaloniki. Light hazy golden color with off white head. Malty, yeasty and light hoppy aroma, floral, grainy, grassy, light spicy, metallic notes in the beginning. Sweet and light bitter taste like aroma. Light to medium oily body with soft carbonation.

Bottle @ Fermentoren, Aarhus. Pours dark yellow with a creamy white head. Aroma of malt, yeast, little spice, wood, slight moldy notes, sweet fruit, melon, orange, peach. Flavor is light sweet, malt, yeasty, somw sweet and light bitter fruit, peach, oranges, spice. Medium body, average to lively carbonation, dry and light bitter finish. 291115

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a hazy orange gold with a huge soapy white head. Strong citrus aromas with lemon zest, iyokan and white grapefruit pith showing along with some pepper and that classic saison yeast nose. There is also a nice bit of tartness on the nose too. Taste is similar with lots of citrus and tart notes coming though. Great spritzy carbonation and a slightly creamy mouthfeel. Finish has some lemon zest and white pepper. A world class saison. C’est manifique!

750ml bottle @Luppolo Station (Rome). Pours amber with a light head. Aroma is yeasty, barnyard, malt, spices, orange peel, OMG! Flavour is medium sweet with a light sour end, so complex and unique! Medium body, medium carbonation. Amazing beer!

Bottle shared. Pours cloudy golden with an off white head and some chunks in the bottom. Aroma of peppery saison yeast, citrus, a little cheesiness, fruity and light toffee notes. Flavour is moderate sweet and light to moderate bitter. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

75 cl bottle. Big thanks to Dany himself for sending this at no cost when my original ones ordered from Belgoklubbem were infected. Hazy apricot color, big white head with yellow hints quickly settling that leaves plenty of lacings. Complex, fruity, tast nose with citrus, flowers, hay, dry white wine, red berries, funkiness. Taste is round with low carbo, very juicy, velvet tounge. Obvious hints of orange at first, then a slightly more tart citrus like hint, white vine, dry without loosing the roundness. Wow, what a peculiar one. Lots of fruitiness. It’s very different from other saisons but still feels like THE blueprint for a saison at the same time. Love it!

Olfactif: Du foin et des herbes aromatiques, algues, varech. Goût: Beaucoup d’herbes, menthe poivrée avec une petite amertume d’herbes fraiches en finale. Légère acidité. Texture de mince à moyenne. Une vrai saison tout à fait conforme au style. Me rappelle un peu la Saison Dupont.
