A well rounded mildly hopped beer. Chocolate and caramel malt flavours combine delicately with blackcurrant hop flavours to produce a strikingly tasty ale.

Hand-pulled half-pint on 2nd May 2018, at The Crown Inn, Oakengates, Shropshire. Nice cream coloured head to this dark brown beer. I thought I detected Rye in both the nose and taste in this semi-sweet Mild. Light chocolate notes also within the aroma and flavour, nice.

500ml bottle from Pheasantry Brewery Beer Shop. Rather disappointing mild. Dark brown colour with a foamy off white head. Aroma toasted melt the taste slightly dour. Not good.

Appearance is dark brown, almost black, a big 2-3 finger off-white rocky head which takes a while to settle. Aroma- chocolate, liquorice, blackcurrant, malts, toffee hints. Taste- chocolate, bitter roast malt, quite hop-forward, fruity, lots of blackcurrant, malty towards the finish, plenty of carbonation. Good stuff.

Cask @ Jacob’s Beer House, Bradford. Darker clear brown with a small glow to it, and a creamy head. Mainly a bitter but has a hint of chocolate in its nose and taste. Quite malty when you don’t get the chocolate.

Bottle from SarkyNorthener cheers Martin; very dark brown pour with a thin light tan head fruity aroma, taste has roasted malts with some dried fruit action, tart vinegar, chocolate.

500 ml bottle courtesy of Hugh (non-RB). Thanks for the gift! Brought to tasting on April 21. Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a frothy bronish white head that slowly dissipates while leaving lots of trace and lacing on the glass. Smell is sweet and malty with dark bread, caraway, metal, liquorice root, caramel, wood, dusty cocoa and hints of cleanser. Taste is slightly sweet and slightly bitter with dark bread, bread spices, liquourice root, orange peal, black currants, grape zest and hints of metal. Mouthfeel is round, tiny tart and light to medium bodied. Finish is tiny sweet, bitter and slightly sour with dark bread, yeast and orange peal. The chemical smell brings it down a bit but except for that this was a surprisingly good beer.
