For this speciality, we use old and young lambic beer that has aged in our oak casks. When the lambic is 6 months old, we add 25% black cherries. This provokes the second fermentation. We then clarify, filter and bottle it.
The cherries and young lambic create a red beer that is both natural and fresh, with an absolutely unforgettable sweet and sour taste. This is kriek as it should be, with nothing but real cherries and lambic. There is no place for artificial colourings or flavourings.

Red color with small pink head. A bit tartness, fruitiness, sweet. Taste is sweet, sugary cherries. Tartness is there, but not very present. Carbonation is ok. Absolutely drinkable among the "sugar-krieks"

Bottle, vintage 2013, enjoyed February 2015. Pours dark red, with a big but quickly receding creamy head. Aroma is dark, canned cherries, wooden berries and notes of wood, as well as some light tart fruity notes. Medium body, with average to soft carbonation. Flavour is tart cherries, forest berries, tannins and wood , as well as some funky lactic acid and farmyard notes. Tart berry finish. Nice and drinkable with lots of cherries for sure, but a tad hard on the berry sweetness and a bit one dimensional and on the light side when it comes to the lactic, acidic lambic sting.

On tap at Beer Deluxe. Pours red with a medium rose head. Typical kriek smell, but rather low key. Too much cherry in the taste, would need more carbonization or more sourness. Both are there but too faint. I definitely prefer the Oude Kriek and the Marriage Parfait.

Pours like a dark red lemonade complete with a mad head. The aroma is of sharp, sour cherry and citrus combined with a fair bit musty, almost dusty, notes and just the faintest hint of floral at the finish. A tart flavour in the mouth with a really creamy palate and a pleasant sour aftertaste. Not at all sweet.

Boon’s sweetened kriek, in collaboration with Palm, not to be confused with Boon Oude Kriek. Hazy red colour, off-white, thick head; aroma and taste combine the tartness of lambic and sour cherries with honeyish sweetness from added sugar. Still shows a certain amount of authenticity: I’d say this is a perfect stepping stone from the ’industrial’ sweet krieks in the style of Timmermans or Belle-Vue to true ’oude kriek’. Very decent in this particular segment, but I prefer actual ’oude kriek’.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle with a best by date in 2017 (2012 vintage?). Aroma is slightly sweet with a moderately strong cherry note. Light funkiness and oak with light acidic character. Cherry has a bit of a medicinal aroma. Pours a slightly hazy, dark reddish brown with a small, thin, slightly pink head that disappears quickly. No lacing or legs. Flavor is moderately acidic and slightly sweet. Moderately strong cherry character, both sweet and sour. Light funkiness with some light oak character. A bit of a candied almond character. Again, the cherry character is a touch medicinal. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Seems a bit flabby. Overall, a very cherry forward beer with a bit of acidity and oak. Rather faint funkiness and oak. Cherry is so strong as to make this somewhat one dimensional. Acidity could be a bit stronger as could the funkiness.
