330ml bottle. Pours pitch black with a medium, tan head. Aroma is milky coffee, not that intense. Taste is milky coffee with a dusting of cocoa. Yeasty meaty finish.

Cask at the Craft Beer Co, London. Black pour with a beige head. Meaty old nose. Dark roast coffee and licorice aroma. Full on rich flavour. A splash of coffee and licorice. Very vinous. Quite sweet. Throat burning but in a nice way. One to savour. Good stuff.

Cask at the Craft. Opaque black beer. Little tan head. Light palate, smooth and low carbonation. Immediate sweetness - chocolate, coffee, sweet red berry fruits. The intensity builds up with the beer becoming rich and very tangy. A pinch of salt. Finishes with hop spice.

Cask at Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. A black coloured pour with a small beige head on top. Rich, boozy, roasty, malty aroma. Taste is rather similar, very rich, roasty, malty, some chocolate and coffee, dry. It certainly did not taste like an 11% beer. A really decent Imperial Stout.

Cask at the Euston Tap, London. Pours rich, dark brown with a foamy, brown head. Nice nose, lots of charred malts, dirt, some alcohol and fruit, hints of maple wood, modest roast, tobacco. Big sweet flavor with some dark, bitter chocolate, burnt wood, dirt, bitter wood, light burnt grass, earth, some charcoal and tar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Sweet, modestly warming finish with plenty of bitter earth. There are some kind of nice burnt oak notes in addition to other charred malts, burnt cocoa and scorched earth. In the end, though, it’s just a little too bitter, slightly too syrupy, just a bit rough around the edges and not altogether coherent. I think a bit of age will definitely improve this beer as the alcohol edge softens and the hops fade out a bit. A nice beer overall.

Cask at the Euston Tap 12th May 2012. Pours jet black and impenetrable, good strong aroma. Mouth is soft and full, loads of flavour, coffee and leather, quite sweet. Not bad at all, 3rd pint enough for me though, keg would be interesting, perhaps slightly cooler than the cask

Cask-conditioned at the Three Tuns, Bristol 29/04/2012. Jet black with a slight, off-white head. Aroma of plain chocolate, grassy hops and a touch of dark fruit. Full mouth feel, with more chocolate, roasted malts, a hint of caramel and a dry, hoppy finish. Excellent.
