Cask @ The Caley, Edinburgh 140712
Jet black, thin tan head, touch of lacing
Aroma - fruity dark malts, dark caramel, soft spices, really mellow, alcohol less noticeable than OFW
Taste as main aroma, bit less spicy than OFW, more fruity, soft chocolate, dark rich fruity malts, alcohol very well hidden, mellow, smooth, complex, what a great flavour
Palate - soft carb, medium to full body. Wonderful smoothness. Finish as main flavour, nice lingering dark fruity malts
Overall - This is a shade better than Old Freddy - it’s a fantastic hybrid porter / winter warmer ale

Cask at CPK. Pours almost black with a sturdy, beige head. Aroma holds some roast, baking cocoa and ripe fruits. Flavor isn’t too sweet and has lots of bitter chocolate, mild roast, dried fruit and light alcohol. Medium to full in body with soft carbonation. Finishes with hard, bitter chocolate maltiness and some roasty wood. Very decent.

Cask at Cask Pub and Kitchen, Pimlico, London. A black coloured pour with a healthy beige head. Nice dark fruit, chocolate aroma. Tastes of dark chocolate, dark fruit, Quite Christmasey and rather similar to Old Freddy Walker. Rich warming and delicious.

Cask-conditioned at the Seven Stars, Bristol 30/01/10. Dark brown with hints of red and a decent tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dried fruit and nuts. Flavour had more chocolate, with a rum edge and caramel that made me think of Thornton’s truffles, before some fruit cake and a decent bitter finish. Presumably related to Old Freddy Walker and very enjoyable.
