Based on our most award-winning beer, Denver Pale Ale, this copper-hued treat is a celebration of everything Great Divide does best. Plenty of malty sweetness provides a backdrop for earthy, floral English and American hops, while French and American oak round off the edges and provide a touch of vanilla. Hazy dark copper with a tall, lasting off-white head. Big juicy malt, fresh citrus fruit hop aroma. A bit out of balance as it first hits the tongue. Hop juice on the front and overly sweet on the finish. A bit thin.

Pours clear copper color with khaki head. Pine hops, oak and vanilla aromas. Flavor is very woody. Lots of pine hop bitterness and vanilla. Balanced with sweet caramel. Nice creamy mouthfeel with moderate carbonation.

Deep amber color, huge oak, caramel and citrusy nose. Nice medium full citrusy body with strong oak and cinnamon notes. Alcohol well hidden. Very well balanced. Moderately bitter finish that just lingers with some caramel and oak notes. Excellent stuff.

bottle (they were pouring from bottles at the brewery and I also brought one home) - Pours amber orange and slightly hazy. It has a big oak aroma along citrusy hops. The flavor has a lot of bitter, citrus accented hops and a huge oak flavor. The profile is almost barley wine like, reminding me in some ways of my hometown brewer’s very hopped up seasonal barley wine. It’s full bodied with a long, bitter finish that leaves some of that oak character lingering on the palate. Excellent brew.

Draught@SBWF2009 (thanks to the bartender from some pub Falun, both for a sip from this as well as for a good chat). Deep amber colour with small beige creamy head. Aroma is zest, lots of fruity and floral hops along with some wooden notes as well as caramel malts. Flavour is quite much the same, but the wooden notes are a bit stronger. Rather interesting result.

(Draught at Stockholm Beer Festival, 26 Sep 2009) Dark amber colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, fruity nose with notes of orange peel, dried fruit, caramel, hints of wood and piney hops. A touch of fennel. Malty, fruity taste with dried fruit, apricots, caramel, some oak wood and earthy hops in a long, warming finish. Almost full body, fairly sweet. Very complex beer in brilliant balance. Impressive!

12oz pour at Pizza Paradiso in Dupont Circle, Washington D.C. Pours a transparent amber, orange with a lacing white head. Aroma was very pleasant, citrus hops, pine, flowers, vanilla, mild oak, and some caramel sweetness. Flavor was very nice as well, oranges, lemons, biscuits, cookie dough, caramel, vanilla, oak, wood, slightly nutty. Finish is smooth, silky, slightly bitter, slightly boozy. This is one of the better oaked IIPAs I’ve had, the oak and the hops compliment each other really well.

Bottle from Liquor Max in Loveland. Pours a nice copper with a large, foamy beige head. Very floral aroma, with some roasted caramel and a hint of oak. Near full bodied with creamy carbonation. Flavor is mild oak and floral hop over a sturdy malt backbone. Very nice mouthfeel. Floral goes citrus towards the finish. Which is bitter. Quite tasty.

Bomber. Nice amber body with an off-white, fizzy, mostly lasting head. The aroma presents notes of raw wood, toasted grain, grass, perfume and flowers. Some hnts of peach and vanilla. The flavor is moderately sweet and light to moderatley bitter. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet and moderately bitter. The bitterness is long lasting. Medium body, velvety texture with moderate to lively carbonation. This is a beer that gets your attention from the first sip — the woodiness muting the bittering hops, but not the sweetness, with other flavors sneaking in behind these three domineering characteristics. By the time you reach the end, you think you’ve had enough of the wood and sweet malts.
