A strong, silky smooth imperial stout with a deep, dark ruby appearance. Mocha, bitter chocolate, liquorice and dark cherry flavours prevail, before the balanced, warming and encapsulating finish.

A contemporary Scottish take on an age old Russian classic style originally brewed for the Tsars. Our interpretation brings together hops from both sides of the Atlantic, amazing flavoured malts and dark sugars.

Like the original BrewDog, this beer would never bite you but would much rather give you a lick on the face. Look Out!

Serving Suggestion: Enjoy with an air of aristocratic nonchalance

Bottle. Pours cloudy very dark brown with airy tan head. Dark aroma of malt, caramel, liquorice and coffee. Bitter, roasty onset, giving way to sweetish notes of caramel malt and coffee, ending with notes of roast and liquorice. Lingering aftertaste of coffee, dark chocolate and yeast. Good stuff.

Bottle @ BrewDog, Manchester [301004]
Pitch black, big tan head, some lacing
Aroma of rich dark malts, soft roasted malts
Taste of rich dark malts, rich smooth roast, smooth bit savoury malts, dab of bitter chocolate, quite complex
Palate - Medium carb, Medium to full body, quite sweet. Finish as main flavour, no burnt roast
Overall - Surprised I hadn’t rated this until now. It’s been going for years but it’s still a really nice impy

Black with small tan head. Aroma has roasted malt and milk chocolate. Flavour has more dark roast, a little licorice and sweetness with moderately bitter ending. A touch too sweet for me.

One of Brewdog’s classics, with pale beige head and very dark burgundy colour, near black. Powerful aroma of cocoa powder, raisins, liquorice, dates, coffee; full and creamy palate, oily, sweet and spicy (liquorice again), increasingly dryer and roasted bitter, concentrated and dense, with warming alcohol in the finish, complex and nowhere astringent. Delightful imperial stout.

Keg @ Brewdog Birmingham. Pours black with tan head. A somewhat light taste considering it’s an Imperial Stout, with whispers of liquorice, sweet chocolate and a decent bitterness. Very nice.
