Gravity cask at the Liberty Belle, Ely. Black and opaque, quite flat. Unusual herby and slight hoppy smell, not expected from a porter. The taste is almost raw, grainy, nutty and bitter. A bit of sweet liquorice, milky mocha and roast veg. Medium bittersweet finish. 10/10 for originality but it doesn’t quite do it for me.

11th November 2007. On tap at the much missed free house of the Sun Inn - Kelvedon. Dark brownish red beer. Very mild porter, has some body but is free of bitterness and toastiness.

Sampled cask conditioned at Akkurat, Stockholm.
Transparently black. Interesting aroma of coffee and licorice. Dry, but an insufficient body gives a slight metallic note. Fairly low bitterness.
