Belgian-style barley wine made for the Waterhuis aan de Bierkant in Ghent and named after a locally well-known folk song. Off-white, creamy and surprisingly stable head (in relation to its strength); deep copper colour, warm and clear. Sweet caramel malts, nicely adorned with accents of pear brandy, whisky, chocolate, flowers, bread, honey and candi sugar. Sweet honeyish and caramelly malts, vivid fruitiness, smooth, mild floral hoppiness in the finish with warming alcohol without turning astringent. A lot better than what I’m used to from Van Steenberge - but then, barley wines are my weak spot anyway.

Small draft sample @ Het Waterhuis aan de Bierkant in Gent. Dark brown with a tanned head. Sweet & syrupy nose, dark fruits & lots of brown sugar. Taste of brown sugar, soy sauce, iron, sweet herbs, caramel malts, touch bitter herbs & iron in the back. Thicker body. Neither exiting nor particularly good as far as my opinion goes. Just another Steenberge brew.
