This new, rich, warming old ale has been brewed especially for this JDW beer festival, with its predominant flavour being of sweet, burnt toffee with nutty overtones, leading to a balanced bitterness and a fruity, spicy finish.

Spoons Fest. Clear brown beer. Light semi dry palate. Rich nutty malt with an odd banana and bubblegum sweet undertone. Some fruity hop emerges in the mid making this a fully flavoured but somewhat disjointed beer. Lingering hop bitterness in the aftertaste.

Cask-conditioned at the Commercial Rooms, Bristol 5/11/09. Deep copper, with a slight, off-white head. Sweet, malty aroma with damsons bready malts. Caramel and re dfurit flavours, with some woody earthiness and a bitter finish. Ok, but Oakleaf can brew much better.

[Cask at the Hope Tap, Reading] Amber with a beige head. It’s got an immediately rich mouthfeel, and is sweet and fruity up front (made me think of rhubarb crumble!). Then lots of toffee and crisp autumn leaves come through, with a good bitter bite in the finish. In the afertaste oak and vanilla (maybe for custard to go with the rhubarb crumble?) come through. This is a good’un!
