Darker in colour, darker in taste, with echoes of the eighteenth century, deep red with a hint of coffee, velvety smooth and rich in malt - not for the faint hearted!

Cask-conditioned at the Imperial, Worcester, 5/1/2019 as Battledown Porter and at 4.4% ABV. Dark brown in colour, with a tight, off-white, head. Dark berry fruits, slightly toasty malts, and a gentle finish. Fine.

Pint at the royal hop pole Twekesbury. I was put off at first by the pump clip, what do you call this when ordering, Cheltenham spa porter? Battledown Porter? Stout Porter Ale? Overall confusing. And I think it’s reflected in the beer. Not a classic porter for me. Dark almost black body with tan head. Light aroma, and a taste that is a touch watery.

Pigs Ear. Very dark brown beer, clear. Light roasted malt nose with a little coffee. Light palate, surprisingly not dry. Toffee malt followed by something reasonably fruity. Slightly malt led.
