On tap at Haandgemeng. An unclear dark brown beer topped by a small, short-lived beige head. Roasted malts, dried fruits, caramel hints, some coffee and wood, and lightly piney, citrus zest-ish hops. Some alcohol, both in aroma and flavor. It's full-bodied, lightly warming and smooth on the palate, with a soft bitterness and quite a lot of sweetness. Roasted malts, dried fruits, some caramel, coffee and wood, and pine cones, grapefruit and resins in the flavor. Long finish. A nice one, unusual but nice. 171027

Appearance is black, with a small beige foamy head which clings a bit. Aroma- dark rum, booze, Christmas pudding, vanilla, oak, whisky, dark malt, liquorice, chocolate cake. Lovely aroma. Taste- burnt, charred malt, bitter dark chocolate milkshake, boozy oaky woodiness, coffee, dark chocolate cake, burnt fruitcake hints. Silky mouthfeel. Barrel-heavy, but nice.

Bottle from BeerHeadZ. Off black slight red colour, with a medium tan head. Aroma light smoke, slight citrus, and big roasted malty. Taste light sweet, medium bitterness, and a full rich smooth body, slightly boozy.

330ml bottle. 9.2%. Pours black-brown with a beige foam head leaving lacing. Aroma of caramel, woody oak, juicy hops. Taste is sweetish, roasted malty, woody, whisky, oaky vanilla, fruity pine hop, with coffee, brown sugar, and earthy drying grassy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry warming roasty bitter finish. Nicely drinkable.

Bottle must have taken a shaking because it was VERY lively when I opened and initially tried to pour it. Settled into black-brown with a thick brown head. Really strong smell that includes rich chocolate, tangy citrus, syrup. Initially mellow and chocolatey it’s zesty fruit that follows quite sharply when you taste it before it settles down a touch again into a hearty, malt flavour. Dry hop comes through, toasty malt and just enough sugary, fruit sweetness to tie the whole thing together.

Draft @ Tilquin English Fest ’16, day2. Brune foncée, col fin café au lait. Arôme au nez houblonné résineux, agrumes généreuses, ce qui est assez ironique compte tenu de la bonne présence du Bourbon qui reste cependant assez en retrait que pour offrir des effluves généreuses niveau des houblons. retrait oscille sur un malté grillé, cara. Palais est houblonné, agrumes avec un côté dark malts, léger Bourbon et pointe de vanille mais le houblonné et amer arrivent tjrs à revernir en balance. Petite sécheresse résineuse, agrumes des C-hops assure la fin et un tout réchauffant.
