Smooth on the outside, crunchy on the inside…oh, those were armadillos. Amarillo, on the other hand, is the fourth in our single hop trilogy. OK, so we’re easily confused, not great at numbers – but we do make tasty beer.
The Amarillo hop, unlike the armadillo, is famous for its high levels of myrcene. What does that mean? It’s all the good stuff: a flavour profile rammed full of grapefruit, melon, apricot and peach…with not a crunch in sight.

Bottle shared with Niilstrong @ hotelroom. Clear orange golden color, average sized white to off-white head. Lovely grapefruit hoppy aroma. Taste malts, hops, grapefruit, grapefruit hop bitter. It sounds quite plain and simple but it really is an absolutely awesome beer! Absolutely love this!

Light haze on this gold beer, tidy cream colour head. Palate is light, dry and has a fine crispness. Light dry malts, mildly sweet. The Amarillo is pretty bitter here with a light fresh orange and floral orange underneath. Mildly dry and bitter finish. Simple stuff but clean and drinkable.

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [021016]
Dark amber, light hazy, bubbly white head
Aroma of lemon, something like gooseberry, citrus
Taste of citrus fruits, light caramel malts, bitter zest hops
Palate - Soft carb, medium body, fairly bitter, soft sweet malt background. Finish is much more bitter, very bitter hoppy linger
Overall OK, not one of the best I’ve had from them but a decent enough hop charge
