This beer is all about the malt. Seven types of sweet complex malt are added and in such quantities that our mash tun was fit to burst. Premium Irish Ale malt, Crystal, Dark Crystal, Black Malt, Chocolate, Roast Barley and Flaked Barley A long conditioning time leads to a round, dense and complex imperial stout, extremely dense, with a smooth mouth feel, cocoa and dark chocolate upfront with rum and raisin notes - beautifully warming on chilly evenings.

Bottle shared by Beersiveknown @ tasting at his place. Huge thanks Steve! Opaque black color, small brown colored head. Smell and taste malts, dark malts, slightly sweet, light chocolate. Really nice. Lovely beer. --- Beer merged from original tick of Russian Imperial Stout (2013) on 09 Mar 2017 at 16:32 - Score: Appearance - 6 | Aroma - 7 | Flavor - 6 | Texture - 4 | Overall - 6. Original review text: Bottle shared by Beersiveknown @ tasting at his place. Huge thanks Steve! Opaque black color, average sized beige to light brown head. Smell and taste malts, bit boozy on the nose, bit firm on the carbonation and it appears to be lightly peppery. Ok.

At a ttasting, smallish creamy head, opaque black color, aroma of toasted bread with sour bread, smokey and barbecue sauce hints, flavor of dark sweet chocolate, metal hints, smokey whiff and some alcohol coming through, quite noticable sweetness. Nice.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Tom L. Black with a tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, dark fruits, some roast, a bit of soy sauce. Bittersweet flavor with chocolate, cocoa, some roast, dark fruits, and a boozy note. Pretty full-bodied, quite rounded. Very good.

Pours a deep black color, topped with a decent dark cream colored head. Roasted malts, lots of chocolate and quite some coffee notes. Taste starts sweet and roasty, lots of chocolate again. Bitterness is a decent one, some soury notes and some sweet fruity notes as well. Pretty strong but easily drinkable.

330mL bottle poured at home into a tulip. Traditional RIS pour, jet black, not overly carbonated, solid thick tan head, coffee and dark chocolate aromas. Full oily mouthfeel, everything here is right where it should be for a RIS, no crazy off flavours, aromas, or colours. Nice warming finish

Draught at Norseman (a few times). Hey black with a film if tan head. Aroma is toasted caramel. Flavour is thick toasted malt, dry smoke, velvet texture, roast, on a chocolate berry finish. Seriously drinkable, make that dangerously at the alco content.

Bottle from Bradley’s, Cork [291114]
Jet black with a tan head. Aroma softer than expected for an impy. A bit boozy. Seems a tad better than last year. Didn’t make proper notes at the time during tasting this. Will re-rate, but I think the score is accurate....
