A rich fruity wine-like complexity on the palate includes fresh and dried fruits, warm exotic spice and light summer citrus fruits. Sophisticated, satiny smooth with a deceptively light character.

330ml bottle. Pours a hazy ruby with a small, creamy, long lasting, tan head that laces. Sweet aroma of caramel malt, figs, dates, spice and alcohol. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, plums, raisins, figs, dates, spice and a hint of chocolate with warming alcohol in a dry, mildly bitter finish. Medium body with an oily texture and soft carbonation. A decent scotch ale.

Normally I’m not a scotch ale aficionado but Skull Spitter may have turned that around. Bought in the cool elevations of Montana and sampled in the ungodly heat of West Texas. The 16.9 oz bottle delivers in my snifter glass a bold amber liquid and a slim, lacey light-beige foam. The nose is reminiscent of a Belgian ale, malt, raisin and hard candy. A drink gives me more of the malt, plum, licorice, a hint of sweetness. It finishes dry with a small bitterness. Surprisingly good.

Clear rust colored pour with a thick beige head and great retention. Decent lacing. Scotch nose. Heavy mouthfeel. Very strong scotch flavor with dark fruit notes. 8.5 ABV is obvious. Semi harsh. Too strong for me.

This pours brown, small head of foam.

Smells of maple, caramel malt, fruity, nutty.

Tastes of maple and caramel, nutty, toffee, slight cardboard.

Low end of medium bodied.

A classic and still holds up.

Bottle, 330 ml at Samo Pivo, shared with Domagoj. Pours deep amber with medium off-white head. Malty, caramel, some dark fruit, quite smooth, bit spicy. Medium+ bodied. Quite nice. Better than expected.

330ml bottle into an Abbot Ale glass tankard at home on 7th Jan 2017. Deep mahogany reddy/brown, beige head, thin but full. Semi-sour, vinous like aroma and initial taste, hedgerow berry flavours arrive mid-sip and equal out the mild sour tastes somewhat. Malty notes also appear late on as the beer warmed in the glass. Decent and interesting, needs to be drank slowly and savoured to fully appreciate it’s depth and character.

Appearance- murky, muddy brown, some sediment, not much head. Aroma- raisin, plum, red wine, chocolate and toffee, fudge, fruitcake, marzipan, cherry. Taste- boozy fruitcake, cherry skin, nutty, sweet malt, figs, malt loaf, toffee, sugary dark fruit, boozy vinous finish. Sticky and rich, and full-bodied.
