A rich fruity wine-like complexity on the palate includes fresh and dried fruits, warm exotic spice and light summer citrus fruits. Sophisticated, satiny smooth with a deceptively light character.

0.33 l bottle from ’REWE Budnik & Homberg’, bottled in August 2013 (three years old). Clear, deep red with a medium large, dense, almost stable, beige head. Faint, sweetish-malty and a little fruity aroma of toffee, raisins and prunes. Sweetish-malty, moderately fruity and a little oxidized taste of toffee, raisins, prunes and hints of oak, followed by a medium long, slightly bitter, a bit warming-alcoholic and minimally vinous finish. Medium body, slightly effervescent mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Quite nice, maybe already a bit past its prime, but it held up well! Surprisingly, it’s still quite alcoholic, but just in a pleasant way.

Bottle shared at the Cotteridge Convention - 2016 edition. Cheers! Pours clear gold with a creamy topping. Sugary and bready, with notes of soft caramel and ripening fruits. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Lightly warming on the finish, with more toasty and bready malts, caramel and toffee. Good stuff.

Pours a rich dark copper from a bottle, lots of lacing. Slightly spicy, rich jammy nose, but rather thin and not overpowering flavor. Very good beer.

Flasche (33 cl) vom Bierzwerg. - Dunkles Goldbraun, fast klar.

330 ml bottle. Pours a tawny Amber color with a small white head. Toasted malt nose has toffee-like tendencies. Flavor has sweet toasted malt notes with a vinous undertone. Bittersweet and earthy. Smooth and fruity, with subtle resiny hops. Boozy malt finish.

It’s been a while since my last Scotch Ale, and this one was a great choice. Pours dark amber with average, creamy, lasting light brown head. Good lacing, almost full body with oily texture, lively carbonation and bitter aftertaste. Heavily malty, with tons of molasses, caramel, toffee and roasted barley. Average presence of hops, pine mostly. Heavy as I expected it to be, it has a great dose of alcohol and hints of brandy smells and taste. Hints of raisin, plum, prune, dry fruits in general, toffee, and some tints of ginger and tobacco. Boy this was delicious! Long Live Scotland!
