McEwan’s Export is perhaps the world’s best-travelled beer. First brewed to quench the thirst of those toiling under the hot Indian sun, it was labelled Export and the name stuck. The sun might not belt down quite the same in Scotland, but we know a refreshing beer when we taste one – Export is today the no.1 supermarket selling ale in in its homeland.
This beer began its life in the 1860s, when its casks would be loaded onto sailing ships for a 5,000-mile journey to India. There it was unloaded on a sun-drenched wharf and sent inland to reward the thirsty workers.
McEwan’s Export does the same noble job today, and is still known worldwide for its hearty character.

Nice looking dark red color, clear, ultrafine white head. Aroma of light biscuit malt, grass, some plum, a coppery/metallic edge. Taste is rather flat. Light body, soft to average carbonation, watery texture, clean finish. Not much going on, but really quaffable.

Keg at the State Bar. Going in you pretty much know this won’t be great. Ruby brown and clear with a bit of cream coloured head. Slight malty aroma with a bit of cinnamon. Taste is... surprisingly decent. Sweet, malty and plummy with a spicy note. Finish is a bit short, and the body’s fairly watery, but all in all as macro keg bitters go this is okay.

IIRC I last had this at the Queenscliff Hotel in the late 80s - it’s been through _how_ many owners since then? Can. Clear amber with a slice of cream head. Aroma of toffee, flowers, boiled sweets, hints of pepper and mace. Light bodied, moderate carbonation. It’s a little dead feeling but refreshing. Mild grainy taste with some dilute caramel flavour, boiled sweets and firm bitterness. A pleasant surprise.

Bottle, small stable bubbly head,clear light brown color with red hues, aroma of hay and white bread, flavor of caramel and hay with a medium herbal bitterness, light sweetness. Highly drinkable but not too exciting.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Stas. Clear deep golden. Aroma of slightly stale malt, a bit grainy, and light fruitiness. Mildly sweetish malty flavor, with a bit of caramel, a fruity note, and a bitterish finish. Quite light-bodied. Bland.

Color Coca Cola. Dos dedos de espuma, no muy duradera. Agradable aroma de malta y azúcar tostada. Carbonatación y cuerpo medios. Muy muy bebible con un tono dulcito pero nada cansino, malta muy rica, y final carbónico seco, también muy agradable. Rica.

50 cl. can. Clear, amber colour with golden hues. Fluffy, white head. Sweet aroma with lightly toasted malts,a spiced note, caramel, bread and floral hops. Taste is bitter - and a bit of a let down compared to aroma. Light to medium body with a thinner texture and a lively carbonation. Finishes dry with toasted malts, light spices and bread. Nice aroma, the rest is rather mediocre.
