Five thousand years ago the Mayan Calendar last turned over. Since then, Nostradamus, The Book of Revelations and random Shaman have all prognosticated that mankind would meet a fateful end. Currently, our demise is scheduled for December 21, 2012 for it has been so decreed our world is about to end not in a Christian Judgment Day but rather a Mayan Apocalypse.

Funny thing is, the Mayans don’t actually believe in the concept of an Apocalypse. We at The Lost Abbey didn’t want to miss an opportunity to update our original Judgment Day recipe to accompany us as we collide towards this impending Rapture. Like us, we’re pretty sure you can believe in dried Chiles, Cinnamon and Tamarind working well together in this beer. This means you can count on this little bottle of beer to help you survive this cultural Armageddon. Please pop the cork and enjoy this version. We’ve got you covered. See you on December 22nd wherever life may take us.

Bottle at Craftheads. Yum. Aroma is porridge, sweetness, quad stuff, sweet maltiness, bit of fruit, no sign of the spice. Taste is great. Dubbel like beefiness, sweet, maybe a touch of spice at the end. Raisins. Good stuff. Classic quad with a spicy finish. Boozy at the end too.

375ml bottle pours out dark amber topped with a sand head. Nose has a lot going on all sorts of spices cinnamon peppers citrus touch and sweet molasses malts. Taste is more of the nice sweet malts and big mix of spice. Fun one to try.

0.375l corked bottle. Quite a big lively head on this one, kinda nut brown in color and fading rapidly. This on top of a deep dark almost ruby brown body. Smells nice this! Lots of dark near burned sweet caramel with dark candied sugar, traces of leather and dark blue ripe plums. Smells really nice! Tastes quite nice also. It has that gunpowder/licorice salty touch that I quite enjoy. Feels light oily in the mouth with a above average carbonation level. Dark malty and a little roasted in the taste. It has a little bit of spicy plums going on here also and it's leaving a really gentle soft buy present burn right on the tip of the tongue. Have to admit that this is quite a tasty one. I know I can so I will get another couple of bottles of this one before it's gone. Nice! 04.12.2013

(Bottle) Dark brown colour with big, but brief, foamy beige head. Malty, spicy nose with dark fruit, coffee, liquorice, caramel, dark chocolate, orange peel and spices (dried chilli, cinnamon). Malty, spicy taste with notes of caramel, liquorice, black coffee, chocolate, orange peel, spices (chilli, cinnamon, star anise, ginger), burnt sugar and a balanced spicy bitterness in the finish. Almost full body, with a touch of sweetness. Quite powerful and complex, with lots of coffee, chocolate and spices. Nice one.

Very dark amber pour, tan head with decent retention and a somewhat sticky lacing. You can tell from the smell that this is a Belgian quad - caramel / brown sugar, dried fruit (figs, raisins), coffee, cocoa, a bit of vanilla and a hint of cinnamon. Taste notes include raisins, figs, caramel, sour cherries, some cinnamon (which I probably wouldn’t have noticed, had I not known it should be there), coffee, dark chocolate and a spicy chilli punch, probably made more potent by the high ABV. Medium to full bodied, with a creamy and a bit sticky mouthfeel. Spicy aftertaste, with a nice sweet caramel component to balance it out.

Weiche, fast gefährlich süffie Malzbasis. Steigende süßliche Malzaromen, Kakao. Weiterhin unglaublich süffig, Bitterschokolade, mild herb. Langer malziger, etwas erdiger Nachgeschmack. 10/12/11/13/12/13
