Bottle. A- Mild chilies, chocolate, subtle cinnamon. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Mild chilies, cinnamon, cocoa, subtle barrel. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- At almost 3 years old, this was pretty worn out. Most flavors were mellowed and therefore, it was quite balanced but not too complex or aggressive which I kind of like from this series. Considering the barrels used, I thought there might still be a bit of a bite but there was none.

Bottle from cellar. Dark brown pour. Dark roasty aroma with a hint of sweetness. Taste is chocolate, walking the line between sweet and bitter. Lingering bitterness.

32oz crowler pours with a clear deep mahogany colored body that supports a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up bourbon, spicy rye like sensation, some hot booze and then a blend of dark roasted malts, coffee and chocolate. The taste delivers smooth to spicy boozy barrel character. It starts with sweet malts sliding into chocolate and sweetened dark roasted coffee. At the same time there's barrel notes of bourbon, spicy rye, mild boozy sweet rum and a bit of warming booziness. Nice and pretty well balanced but the barrel character does lead over all.

A very recent acquisition, XXIX was found at Binny’s in downtown Chicago. Go Cubs. I have a bottle of XXX already so XXIX goes in front. I’m using my Buffalo Bayou snifter this time. Peel through the wax, open and pour. Nice chocolate scent opening along with some spiciness, licorice, pepper perhaps. A taste brings cocoa, strawberry, tobacco, biscuit, the barrel contributing some booziness. The best porter I’ve ever had.

Bottle shared with the KL tasting crew. Poured a clear dark brown colour with a thin broken light tan head. The aroma is big roasty malt, liqouirce, chocolate, red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate sweet with a smooth, rich, roasty, liqouirce, chocolate, fruity vanilla, light boozy palate. Medium to full bodied with flat carbonation and an oily mouthfeel.

From bottle at the inaugural Beer Jerk Bunker bottle share, thanks to Brent. Pours black. Chocolate, liquorice, blackcurrant, cinnamon, dark chocolate, touch of heat, fair bit of bourbon. Good body. Very nice.
