St-Feuillien’ Saison is what the Belgians call a beer of the terroir, a traditional farmhouse ale with all the rich savour of the fertile land of southern Belgium. Saison, a warm golden blonde ale, is a top-fermented classique. Thanks to secondary fermentation in the bottle, Saison has an unmistakable flavour full of rich nuances and a slight tang. Saison, the latest in a long line of top-quality St-Feuillien beers, is a “hoppy”, unfiltered bee that is so emblematic of the rich Belgian tradition.

Can. Very surprised this isn’t rated. Nose a little funk, herbs, floral, summer fruits, lemon, bread, lots of banana, slight vanilla. Taste is beady, lemon, grassy, herbal hops, lots of banana, and toffee and light spice and pepper in the finish. Mouthfeel is light and pleasantly carbonated. It’s a really decent Saison. St Feullien seem to specialise in good but never outstanding beers. There is surely no shame in that.

At Maakun’s place. Frisse melkzuur/gist smaak. Kruidig. Ik moet aan Gageleer denken door die kruiden (gagel?). In de nasmaak een korreltje zeezout. 11.2 ounce can. Lousy peach color with a small bubbly white head that disappears quickly. Fruity malty nose with slight yeast undertones. Tart fruity malt flavor. Yeasty notes with a hint of apricot and white pepper. Grassy hops in finish. There is a subtle barnyard funkiness throughout that provides an earthy character. Well made and a pleasant quaff.

F: huge, off-white, long lasting. C: hazy, gold, non-transparent. A: malt, orange/lemon peels, grassy hop, hint of honey, yeast. T: crispy carbo, medium body, 0,33l bottle, malty, citrusy, orange peels, some spicy, coriander, grassy / herbal hoppy, hint of straw, earthy, nice bitterness with hint of yeast on the palate, well done beer and tasty refreshing.

Draught. Slightly cloudy bright yellow with small white frothy head, vanilla aroma, high carbonation, characteristic Belgian yeast taste, full body, long finish. Smooth and flavorful!

(bottle) bright light amber colour with a very tall beige head; aroma starts with earthy, the cake, hint of citrus; slightly sweet flavour with a long light bitter-sweet finish

Hazy orange, airy white head, some sediments. Fruity, malty aroma. Orange and faint funky notes. Flavour has orange, light caramel and yeast. Mouthfeel is light, seem a little watery at first but it’s really quite flavourful and well balanced. Fluffy with a good bitter bite.

330 ml bottle, BB date 15. Apr. 2014, from Vinmonopolet, Nettbutikken. (Think I have a 750 ml corked bottle somewhere too.) ABV is 6.5%. Hazy golden to orange colour, large white head. Grainy and mildly spicy aroma. Medium dry and mildly spicy flavour, refreshing. Tolerable hops in the finish. Okay.
