Flanders red is inspired by the great ‘Burgundies of Belgium’. A rich complex beer, deep in red colour and fermented with a Roselare yeast strain. This special release spent 40 months in barrels prior to blending.

Keg at the Earl of Essex, 14/05/15. Reddish amber topped with a decent crimson swirl. Nose is tarte red berry, cherry skins, wood must, damp hay, acidic notes, funk. Taste comprises tarte raspberry, grape skins, wood must, straw, vanilla essence, red berry balsam. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close. Solid flavoursome red, balanced acidity, moderate puckering close, good all round depth and balance.

Keg at Earl of Essex. It pours hazy reddish with a decent off-white head. The nose is earthy, funky, musty, touch of jammy berry and very light lactose. The taste is crisp, light tartness, juicy jammy fruits, berry, plum skin, red fruits, soft, creamy malt, woody and funk with a short, dryish finish. Medium body and fine carbonation. Not as tart as expected, but nice balance and drinkability.

Keg at CBC CG - London. Pours clear amber with a creamy mellow tan head. The aroma holds some ripening berries, cherries, slight vinegar. Medium sweet flavor with more ripening fruits, mellow acidity, some lemon rind bitterness, touches of damp wood, more berries, light salt. Medium bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes sweet with nips of fruit and leather, slight musty hay and acetic bite, more berries, lightly toasted bread. Perhaps a touch sweet but very nice overall.

Keg at the Hanging Bat. Pours clear red-brown with the merest wisp of head. Aromas of oak, red wine, red grapes. Something almost spicy. Taste is fruity, sour, tangy, dry finish. Will be interesting to see how it develops.

Keg at the hanging bat... Deep red.. Thin white lacing... Big funky fruit nose... Very soft body.. Juicy fruits... Very sweet fruits... Soft sweet fruits.. Oily fruits.. Big fruits... No sourness.. Quite interesting interesting
