Een stevige Barley Wine van brouwerij De Molen. Dit bier leent zich voor rijping op wijnvaten. De vorige versie heeft op Bordeaux vaten gelegen, maar ditmaal is er gekozen voor de Spaanse Rioja.

25th Feb 2016 at The Shrewsbury Beer Club tutored tasting evening. Red hue to the hazy amber pour, wispy topping. Aroma of malt molasses and red wine, taste not far off that either: hides the alcohol nicely and I found it far to easy to drink. Base beer is good, the Rioja aging just adds so much more in terms of aroma and flavour: excellent.

Bottle from the Baron of bottles. Pours hazy red, thin white head. God-damn the nose is amazing! Red wine, shaved wood, red berries, vanilla. Taste is all of this, plus a note of sweet regret, the inevitable decay of all things... And vimto. Fruity, more wine notes on the finish. Excuse me, Iām watching daredevil.

Draught. Light hazy deep amber liquid with medium light tan head. Aroma of dried, oak, raw sugar, toffee, booze, red wine and red berries. Taste is very sweet and light bitter with notes of red berries, caramel, toffee, wood and raw sugar. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Quite oaky. Very high boost. Nice!

Many thanks to my EU Secret Santa 2015! Great fruity woody nose. The beer starts very easy to drink with fresh sourish-fruity hints of red wine and wood. Deep with nice complex wood and red-wine aroma. Not much bitterness, nicht fruity malty body, no roast! Great fresh combination - ideal for a red wine BA beer!

On tap at NBF Winter Delft 2015. Clear, dark amber with a huge, creamy, tan head. Sweetish-malty aroma of raisins, molasses, caramel, vanilla, honey and hints of red grapes. Sweet, malty taste of raisins, honey, vanilla and caramel, followed by a short, slightly bitter, minimally vinous, lightly boozy finish. Medium to full body, oily mouthfeel, flat. Good! Not too much influence of the barrel which might be advantageous.
