Bottle. Deep brown with a beige head that’s soon a scant coat. Plum and sweet dough aroma with figs and golden raisins. Taste is much the same - dried fruit, sweet dough. There’s some cigar-box spicy wood, but it’s not obviously actually cedar. Bitterness is maybe slightly harshly spiced. No chocolate, dark fruit or gentle roast. A bit La Trappe means old fashioned barley wine. Alcohol is really well hidden. OK, but won’t tarry in the mind.

Bottled on 14-09-2015. Very good quad, with indeed something sharp resiny/wood. Dark and caramelly. Not too sweet. Nice!

330ml bottle @ Chez Sophie, Shrewsbury. Pours very dark mahogany, thin tan head. Aroma is sweet, dark fruits, woody hints. Taste veers more towards barley wine territory, exceptionally sweet some sticky dark fruits, caramel, burnt brown sugar. I got into this more the second time. A sipper.

330mL bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with a small beige head. Aroma is massive on the cedar, followed by dark fruits and Belgian yeast. Flavour is less dominated by the cedar, bringing out lots of caramel sweetness, followed by dark fruits, candied sugar and a touch of wood. Sweet, but not too cloying. Really nice.

Bottle from BCL Park Royal; bottled 14-09-2015
Dark brown color, near black, with medium sized head, not persistent. Both aroma and flavor have the malt and caramel depth of old style strong Belgian beers, and sweet enough to get close to a classic British Barley Wine, and ending with a nice touch of dark caramel and nuts; the alcohol is well managed; the cedar is not evident.
Delicious Barley Wine.
