22 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown with a large, rocky, tan head. The aroma is pumpernickel, caramel, toffee, and pine. The flavor is mildy spicy and a little bitter up front, with a nice brandy sweetness following. The palate is medium, acidic, a little sticky, and fairly bubbly. Overall, this is a light doppelbock, but still very flavorful and interesting. More hoppy than any doppelbock I’ve ever had, but it works well.

@Tap&Grind-on tap-pours amber with a thin light tan head. Aroma is sweet medium malt, medium/dark fruit-cherry. Taste follows.

Pours clear dark copper color with thin khaki head. Toasted malt and caramel aromas with bread dough. Sweet caramel and dough flavors with toasted malts and nuttiness. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation.

Aroma: The nose is fairly sweet with some toffee and caramel malts, and a little dark fruit
Appearance: This one pours a burgundy color with a tan head and heavy lace on the glass
Flavor: This one has a nice malty flavor, with a medium sweetness and minimal bitterness
Palate: The body of this one is medium, and it has a solid, somewhat thick mouthfeel to it
Overall Impression: This one was another solid offering from Great Divide, and it was good to try (or drink again) about 6 or 7 different Great Divide beers that were hanging around the taps at RnH (left over from their weekly Tuesday event I assume) including some old favorites and some, like this one, that I hadn't had before.

Tap at Three Fires. Burnt sugary malt, earthy herbal, and raisin aroma. Chestnut with a moderate tan, thick creamy head, nice lacing. Roasty malt, and coffee flavor with a light roasty bitter finish. Medium body.

22 ounce bottle. Pours a dark reddish brown color with a large foamy tan head. Lovely burnt caramel malt aroma hints at fresh baked bread. Rich bittersweet roasted malt flavor with spicy herbal hop undertones. Less sweet than the German doppelbocks, but very good nonetheless. A full-bodied sticky mouthfeel leads to a long bittersweet hop finish and aftertaste.

tap at Dash In - Pours dark amber with a light tan head and a rich roast caramel aroma. It tastes very sweet with toasty caramel and toffee flavors. It’s a full bodied, tasty brew.

Draught. Red brown pour with thick off white head. Lekker aroma caramel and sweet malt. Toffee and malt with ’n bietjie plum. Sweet finish. Flavour not as full as you’d expect

Pours deep dark amber into a stem glass. Micro mocha head with good retention recedes leaving scant trailing sheets. Dark pit fruit and molasses aromas. Creamy with dark caramel and toffee upfront turning to a mild chocolate burn in the lasting finish.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a dark ruby red with a small tan head. Aroma of red fruits, toasted nuts and slight caramel. Flavour of toasted nuts, dark fruits, and light caramel. Medium sweetness and complexity. Finishes dry and slightly sweet. Very good.
