DPA has risen to become one of the most award-winning English-style pale ales in the world. Sporting a brilliant copper hue and an assertive floral hop aroma, DPA is known for its smooth, malty middle, which is expertly complemented with hearty and complex hop flavor. DPA’s extraordinary hop finish is marked by crisp yet moderate hop bitterness.

Copper brown, small off-white head. Malty, a bit hoppy and weak nose. Sweet malty, grassy hoppy. Dry, weak hoppy aftertaste. Quite drinkable session pale ale, more interestring than many others from this style.

Bottled. Clear amber. Grapefruity hop aroma. Dry, crisp, very aromatic. Lychee dominates. Pleasant lingering biter finish. Very American.

I would not hesitate to order this in a bar or restaurant. Poured copper with short, head. Pleasing aroma of floral hops and sweet malts. The balance between the floral, earthy bitterness of the hops and the caramel-like sweetness of the malts evokes a tangy, slightly sour note. The body seems a little heavier than medium hinting at a creamy, almost sticky mouthfeel, but the beer finishes crisp enough. Nice job.

Amber colour with a dense, rocky head. Earthy, sweaty, slightly piney aroma. Fairly bitter body, woody overtones and toasty, whole grain undertones. Dry finish. Balanced and flavourful session beer.

2005 bottle from Julios consumed 5/28/2005 at OldGrowth’s BBQ. Filtered, shiny orange, with some deep golden tints in it as well. Head is small and white but provides some retention as a thin cover. Light lacing. Smells of heavy floral hops, dry and very plant-like. Notes of light oranges as well. Some moderate caramel and toasted grains. Flavor is full of dry, bitter floral hops, giving it a nutty/chewy palate, with caramel and dry graininess. Too much carbonation, and just too much dryness from the hops, in my opinion. Finishes with bitter grapefruit, traces of yeast and mineral water. Lightly bubbly mouthfeel, medium body. Another hard-palated American beer pretending to be British.

This starts off with a sparkling clear body of brilliant copper under a large rocky off white head. Light perfume in the hops aroma. The flavor started sour turning an astringent bitter that ended thin and chalky. Very disappointing.

The primary aroma is hops, but there is also metal. This is very smooth, and there is a sweet hop flavor.

Clear copper/dark orange, thin off-white head. Piney, earthy hops aroma with toasty malts. Biscuity, toasty malt body with an adequate supply of piney, earthy hops. A bit buttery. Highly carbonated which isn’t optimal for a session beer like this one. Bitter finish. Decent, but a bit boring.

An amber beer with a small disappearing orange head. The aroma is sweet malty with some notes of alcohol. While the flavor is sweet malty with a hoppy end. But the body is thin.
