I went to Yamaoka today and got one for the road: Noboribetsu (Oni Debsetsu) Pilsner Light gold with a bready and lightly peppery aroma. Soft bodied with a crisp finish for some reason I kept thinking Czech Pilsner drinking it. After a few hours out in the heat this went down a treat and I was impressed by its soft approachable breadiness.

Slight haze, dull gold. Has a light floral, hop note, but not a whole lot else.

On tap at BB North Island. Clear gold with a medium-sized white head. Aromas of grain, crackers with some light grass and fruit esters. Taste is more of the same with nice balance. Fruit and grass notes stand out as it warms. Solid crisp and refreshing finish. Very nice. --- Beer merged from original tick of Pilsener on 16 Jul 2015 at 12:24 - Score: 7

Light golden color, moderately hoppy, but not that greatly balanced. A touch of strange malty character, which I didn’t care for, but not bad.

On tap at the brewpub, 2007. Pale clear gold. Small but persistent fine head. Medium to strong aroma of hops and golden malt. Decent malt character, though light in maltiness and body. Pretty decent hopping and fruit flavor. Malt rather simple, round and mellow, though tangy with citrus notes. Refreshing, not groundbreaking, though with better flavor than usual. Citrus and hop finish. Very clean. Hops not overpowering. Good but not too special.
