Brigand is a strong blonde beer that is re-fermented in the bottle. The pale blonde colour is eye-catching thanks to the use of unmalted wheat, pale malt and pils malt. Brigand has a slightly malty taste with accents of spices and hops in the finish.

bottle@home: golden yellow with small but lasting head, smells of hop, yeast & touch of citrus, taste is flowery sweet, with citrus, a touch of hops, black bananas, slightly bitter with a touch of booze, medium to light body, lots of carbonisation

330mL bottle, pours pale golden with a huge white head. Aroma of yeast, pear, green apple, citrus, light banana and orange. Flavour brings out the pear most dominantly, with citrus, green apple and lots of yeast. Sort of a champagne like quality, with the very high carbonation. Very, very nice.

33cl bottle from Westholme Stores, Goring. Clear straw with a thin white head, moderate carbonation; yeasty aroma; thick and warming with lots of alcohol and some trppical fruit; crisp dryish finish with some lightly spiced hops. Very pleasant.

Bottle in Bulgaria. Pours clear, golden, with a soft, white head. Lightly malty aroma, with some alcohol and candi-like caramel. Flavor is fairly sweet with mild yeast and bread, Belgian sugar, tons of booze that’s not hidden, decent funk. Medium bodied and well carbonated. Finishes quite warm, subtly metallic, very boozy, lightly yeasty. Probably about average, though the potent booziness is enough to put me off a bit.

Served on draft at 12th Street Tap House, Charlottesville, VA, 6/25/10. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of fruity notes, including apples and stone fruits, some bready notes and a faint spiciness. The taste is apple, stone fruits, berries as well as bread, spice, butterscotch and faint spice. Medium bodied. Fairly average.

(Draught at White Horse, Parson’s Green, London, 22 May 2010) Golden colour with brief, white head. Fruity, malty nose with notes of apricots, orange peel and spices. Malty, fruity taste with orange, apricots and a touch of spices in the finish. More than medium body, sweetish. No surprises, but solid, well made and very tasty.
