A Belgian style ale that pours bright with an egg shell cap that leaves sticky lacing above the sunset orange color. Our primary Belgian yeast strain is accompanied by Brettanomyces Bruxellensis for two fermentations that create deeper aromatics of stone fruit and farmhouse pollen and flavors of honey and green tea.

750mL bottle, pours a cloudy dark golden with a small white head. Aroma reveals notes of Belgian yeast and sweet cereal malts - not getting any brett. Flavour is identical, with sweet cereal, Belgian yeast and bready malt. Not very complex, with quite a doughy finish. It's okay.

Still yet another 750 ml bottle Got at Binny’s during my Chicago Black Friday trip. Cloudy gold /orange in color with thin head. Smells of spent grain, light fruit and light yeast.

Flavor is a good amount chewy yeast with hints of fruit upfront. Light esters banana, bubblegum and weak citrus hints. I don’t pick out much in the way of the Brett yeast character but it still has some nice flavors. Lighter body with a higher then desirable carbonation level. The chewy yeast doesn’t really come out in the body as much as the first half of the snifter indicated to me. The Brett is subdued.

At Ale Arsenal. Spicy, funky nose with wheat malt backing. Hazy orange with white head leaving a collar. Taste is barn like and chewy yeast. Slight orange. Dry finish. Moderate spritzy aspects on finish.

Bottle. Pours a hazy deep gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has notes of light fruit, light grains and a bit belgian yeast and a touch of spice. Flavor is pretty much hay and grain backed by light spice and a hint of Belgian yeast.

Bottle thanks to Rick. Pours a cloudy orange with medium frothy white head. The aroma is strong brett, oak, and yeast. Medium mouthfeel with strong brett, citrus, light dry fruit. Good.

On draught at Hopleaf, 4/19/14
Lightly hazy godlenrod with some deeper ripe orange hues and a fluffy white head atop, showing strong retention.
Lemon, light vanilla and hints of lime and tropical fruits emanate from the nose, with a backdrop of bready caramel malts, plentiful pear and apple esters and just a touch of bubblegum. Certainly a ton of yeast activity in the nose. Clean, and quite straightforward with the brett providing an enjoyable complexity, but certainly not pervasive here. Low on the hoppiness, with just a dusting of citrus zest, light grassiness and no acidity to speak of. Alcohol is well-controlled and out of the picture.
Grainy, somewhat scratchy malts are noteable but fortunately soft base malt sugars still remain and are able to comfort the palate while lemon-lime-like brett notes coalesce on the end, leading to a dry finish with some earthy/doughy yeastiness and plentiful esters (banana, bubblegum, pear, apple). More hop bitterness in the form of fresh cut grass and some light citrics, than perceived from the nose, actually helping to brighten up the beer, while there is a slight wateriness on the finish that is quite becoming and helps belie the somewhat high abv here. Very drinkable and well-done.

Great, well-balanced session Belgian ale with bretta. Nicely balanced, and the kind of beer I’d drink all the time if I could find it around for cheap. If only the budweisers of the world would disappear and allow to drink stuff like this as a default. Man. Anyway, bretta doesn’t pop up till finish and there’s a nice underpinning of floral hops here. Tap at Rustico.

I have had limited experience with this brewer, always assuming they were yet another over-hyped, over-priced brewery for me to scroll past - however, since their beers have been on sale at a store I frequent, I have decided to try a couple more recently - the saison was pretty meh - this beer, however, is downright awful, so I guess my initial opinion is confirmed - the beer looks okay - hazy amber, with a fluffy, well-sustained head - nose is syrupy sweet, slightly boozy, with notes of glazed doughnut, yeastiness, baby food, moldy fruit - poorly attenuated - very sweet flavor - thick, sludgy yeast mouthfeel - chalk, moldy peaches, cheese rind - bubblegum and grain husks - clumsy, with mildewy basement character throughout - finish is incredibly hot and boozy for something that is supposedly 7% (it actually burns) - pretty terrible - looks like I’m done with this brewery.
