We joined up with Kees Bubberman, the main Dutch beer impressionist of our time, to dream up something both ephemeral and memorable. That’s how we ended up brewing our new imperial stout, Asperatus, along with the good folks over at Brouwerij Kees.
Burnt and caramel malts came together into a unique chocolate flavour, and we threw in both raspberry puree and lactose while aging for noticeable sweet-berry notes.
The result: a harmonious balance of raspberry layered through with chocolate. A bold protest against the classic masters!

Canned 02.09.2019. Black, slightly pinkish brown head. Smells raspberry, light chocolate. Super soft and airy body, real fluffy. Taste is sweet, jammy raspberries, milky chocolate, and some subtle roast. Bit dusty on the far end, but so amazingly soft.

330ml can. Jet black colour with small to average, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, tan head. Sweet-ish fruity and chocolately, minimally roasty, dark malty aroma, notes of raspberry with fruit acidic and pulpy aspects, some dark chocolate, a touch of liquorice. Taste is roasty, slightly chocolately and minimally spicy, dark malty, slightly fruity, notes of dark chocolate, some liquorice, raspberry, subtle sweet-ish hints of milk chocolate; well hidden alcohol. Viscous texture, smooth, soft and silky, slightly cloying palate, lingering sweet-ish, chocolately finish with widely disguised, residual raspberry vestiges. Nice, harmonious, not overly complex composition, liquid, raspberry flavoured dark chocolate. Good.

Can picked up from Beer Republic, Breda, Netherlands drinking this sat outside at home Attenkirchen Sunday 19th April 2020 day 31 of Coronavirus lockdown. We're listening to Shame - Songs of Praise. Cooked homemade Pizza in the woodoven tonight and I made Rhubarb Crumble Ice Cream, btw it's yet another glorious day. Pours black with a light tan head. Mmhh..I probably shouldn't have had this after the dry stout, it tastes unbelievably sweet in comparison. Raspberry but a touch syrupy, chocolate and a little malty. Not really my thing, in all honesty I appear to somehow have picked up very few pastry stouts since the style became popular and on this showing I'm glad.
