Belgian Style Dubbel

The story of New Belgium begins with an abbey: Not only were Belgium’s monastic beers the inspiration behind our Colorado brewery, but Abbey, a Belgian-style dubbel, was one of the first beers we released way back in 1991. Since then, it’s become our most award-winning offering. This garnet brown hued Belgian-style dubbel is strong on character and rich in flavor. Seven malts, including caramel Munich and chocolate, and a definitive Belgian yeast, waft off sweet, spicy aromas. Rich tones of chocolate and dark caramel mix with nuanced dried cherries, burnt sugar and figs. Sweet and roasty upfront, followed by a slightly bitter finish, Abbey is a lovely representation of the monastic beers of Belgium. Sip Abbey, and sip New Belgium’s tradition.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle (with glasses on the label not a monk) poured into a trappist glass. Pours crimson red with medium beige head which dissapates fairly quickly. Medium carbonation, light body, and dark candy sugar aroma. Taste is dark fruit, dark candy sugar, and caramel. Less complex, but easier to drink than most dubbels. This is good.

From Dec 2005

Poured from bottle(room temp) a deep amber gold with a very small head that dissipated slowly leaving a fine solid layerand lots of nice lacing.

The smell is very fruity with notes of banana, plum, and a clove aroma as well. Very inviting!

The taste is a wonderful blend of the notes I mentioned in the smell all working together with sweet malt and a nice yeasty infusion that makes it so darn drinkable.

This is a very nice Belgian style dubbel that I can thoroughly recommend!

12 oz bottle. Pours brown amber with an off-white head. Very strong, clear bubble gum aroma with overripe fruits. Nutty flavor paired with a more restrained bubble gum yeastiness. Fruit and touches of potpourri. Simple, but solid enough.

Samples on the New Belgium tour, what a great tour by the way! Pours a clear dark reddish brown color with a medium white head. A big spicy nose with banana and yeast. A pretty basic clean and crisp Dubbel with bananas, light grainy malts, very smooth.
