Tap at Gremlin. Very interesting. I like it. Initial big coffee taste, little sweetness from the malt. Later on, green chilli taste, but without too much heat. Only get a little of the lemon. Like it a lot. Was initially confused by it, but I ended up enjoying it a lot.

Golden color. Fairly hoppy nose with big coffee nose. Actually quit interesting. Fairly hoppy dry mouth, but the coffee just dominates, to the point of overwhelming, but I actually liked it.

Tap at Komachi. Clear golden color. Nose or lemony hops, coffee. Flavor is a bit more interesting, again lemon, grass, light malt, coffee. For me, these really don’t go well together. Mellow, rounded body. Not my thing at all, but not terrible.

On tap at Bungalow. This collaboration with Trunk Coffee is a bright gold with a dense off-white head - it looks like an inviting blonde ale. The aroma is interesting, at first I get bright juicy hops then I detect faint coffee notes struggling to get through. Probably served too cold. Medium-light bodied with a dry finish. The taste is similar to the nose - bitter pine & citrus duking it out with rich coffee. You can feel it almost come together but then the hops take over. An interesting experiment but in my opinion it’d have been more successful if they’d cut the hops in half giving the coffee a fighting chance to shine. As it stands the coffee mostly comes through like green earthy coffee grounds. Maybe I’ll pick up a bottle to cellar for 6-12 months to allow the hops time to fade...

Re:rate bottle a month after. Much less green chilli action on the nose and palate. As it warms, more citrus fruit but still has some coffee notes as well. Improved, but still not up to Shiga quality. Tap at Mikkeller Tokyo. Crystal clear yellow gold with a small white head that dissipates fairly quickly. Big jalapeno pepper nose with some light lemon zest and grapefruit pith. Some smoky jalapeno on the palate with cream. Dry finish with some tobacco. Interesting take on a coffee beer, but a mess really. Unbalanced and a weird cream cheese jalapeno character throughout. Not as good as the Baird / Onibus specialty coffee IPA colab earlier in the year. I had the Trunk Limoncillo coffee pourover after this and preferred the coffee to the beer by a landslide. --- Beer merged from original tick of Drunk Coffee / Limoncillo on 01 Dec 2015 at 17:30 - Score: 6
