From the handpump at Transit. Amber colour, off-white big bubbly head. Aroma is citrus hoppy, slightly peppery, bit malty too. Taste is nice initially full on pepper but mellows. Caramel malty bit further down, bit of citrus. Very nice. Very drinkable but maybe would have preferred it from a keg. Probably just my own preference though.

Cask @ Beer Belly Tenma. Dull amber, drops fairly bright. No head. Fresh, fruity and quite herbal. Distinctive herbal note but I just can’t put my finger on it. Decent brew, heavy on the herbs but with enough bitterness to pull it through. Cask was a bit flat...would have been better if not for that.

Handpump at Gremlin for TUF event. Toasted brown color with a small finger of off-white foam that lingers through. Soft malty aromas with some caramel and floral sansho notes. Well-balanced and feels quite light and creamy on the palate. The sansho comes in a little towards the end of the palate and on the finish. Peppered toffee and tea on the finish. Decent enough. --- Beer merged from original tick of Sansho Pale Ale on 08 May 2016 at 16:14 - Score: 7. Original review text: Nice malty pale with good light sansho charater. British and easy drinking with a light floral pepper finish.

Cask, Part of Real Ale Month at Beer Belly Temma. 550 yen for a half-pint. It pours a clear light copper-gold with a thin filmy head. A nice sansho minty aroma rises from the glass - really intriguing. A great soft silky light body with a refreshing sansho minty taste, then some earthiness that is followed by citrusy hops, the malts aren’t all that evident except for a light graham biscuity quality. As it warmed up it got a bit floral as well. Well balanced, exceptionally drinkable I like it!

A lot of people didn’t seem to like this, but I actually didn’t mind the strong sansho notes. I just found it a bit cloying and not well balanced. Still worth trying.

Real ale at Beer Belly Tenma. Spicy snasho nose. Caramel and sansho flavor, creamy, spicy, pppery finish. Quite nice, and much better than the one I had a few years back. From the hand pump at Qbrick, Real Ale Month 2008: 6/3/3/4/3. A test run, it seems. Loaded with Sansho, which I guess is Sechuan Pepper. The beer was overcome completely. Flavors of sansho, but even more of pepper and ginger. Some chemical taste as well. Spice way overdone. Nice palate, though.
