A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.
Named after the infamous "Blackout of 2003" that left the northeastern United States in complete darkness, but resulted in old-fashioned neighborhood porch parties and fun.

12 oz. bottle, sent from FullObs (thanks Brett), pours black with a medium beige / tan head. Aroma is full of roasted malt, chocolate and oats - pretty standard nose for an impie. Flavour contains lots of roasted malt, significant amount of chocolate, some oats, and some dark grapes, finishing slightly bitter on the cocoa / chocolate notes. Very standard flavour profile, but at the same time, expertly executed. Great, highly drinkable impie stout.

Very dark red-brown beer. Opaque. Short lived deep tan head. Minerally dark malt nose. Softish palate, a little dry, but turns crisper. Smooth rich dark malt, well balanced chocolate and coffee. Very nice undertone of red fruits. Really good balance of flavours. Smooth and not bitter or over dry.

Refrigerated 12 oz. bottle, best by date 4/20/12 poured into a shaker. Pours black with small dark brown highlights and half finger beige head. Some lacing, medium carbonation, pretty thick body, and nice roasted aroma. Taste is slightly sweet roasted malt, some caramel malt, some coffee, and some nice bitter hops in the finish. This is a good complex Imperial Russian Stout which for the style is not that filling, alchohol is well covered, there is a little off taste in the middle (which becomes more promenient with increased temperature) that prevents this from being a homerun, and I would like to have again.

12oz bottle from SS 2011
Appearance: Black with small tan head and light spotty lacing
Aroma: Rousted malts and bitter chocolate
Taste: Roasted malts, sharp sour/bitter chocolate, licorice, medicinal and roasted coffee
Ok, but the sour/bitterness wasn’t pleasant for me.

Purchased at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed after some wedding registering and resting after eating a Red Robin burger. Appearance is pitch black, more on the thin side, with not much of a head, if anything a small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, lactose, a bit of coffee and vanilla, slight sweetness. Taste is smooth with a light bitterness in the back end, medium body and carbonation, nice chocolate malt presence. Not bad, pretty good, surprised that this is a 9% ABV brew, hides the alcohol well.

Gabf. Black appearance with a brown head. Super roasty, dark chocolate, light espresso aroma. Bitter, earthy, dark chocolate, roasty, slightly burnt malty flavor. The barrel aged version is so much better.

Received in trade from Prototypic in the Secret Santa bif Thanks for the opportunity. Pours a solid black with a fluffy tan head that dissipates quickly. Smells of cocoa and milk chocolate, a bit of roast, coffee and some alcohol as it warms. Tastes of cocoa and chocolate followed by some roast and hop bitterness followed by some coffee leaving a roast bitterness in the finish. Creamy velvety smooth mouthfeel, thick body, low but ample carbonation. This is a great stout! one of the best I’ve had in a while. Huge creamy mouthfeel, just awesome.

Location: 12 oz bottle from jcos, 1/20/11
Aroma: It has lots of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, some coffee, and a hint of fruit
Appearance: It pours a pretty much opaque black color with a small brown head
Flavor: The taste is rich and malty, medium-heavy sweet, with a dry roasted finish
Palate: The mouthfeel is fairly full, a bit of chewy, a drop warm, and a fairly long finish
Overall Impression: I thought for sure I'd rated this one before. I distinctively remember having it about a year back and enjoying it quite a bit, but I guess a rating never got entered. Anyway, I'm drinking and rating it now, and I'm enjoying it again. A very good brew for sure.

Bottle. Got at Brickskeller during last week of operation. Poured an black oil color with a thick dark tan head. Aroma was extremely roasted, chocolates, coffee. Good, smooth character. Tightly carbonated. Earthy malts, chocolate. Alcohol is incredibly well masked.
