A Russian Imperial Stout with a hearty malt body and bold hop flavor.

Draft at GLBC. Nice color, raven feather black, has a oily sheen on top the pitch black stout after the thick tan head died. Real nice aromas of roasted malts. Flavor is truly what stout lovers look for, milk chocolate, bitter coffee grinds to help balance all the sweet roasted malts. Has a longer lingering chocolate and coffee finish. This is a stout I would drink often if it was available to me. Mouthfeel is indeed creamy with the body being full and hearty. This drinks so easy, never guess it was 9% ABV. This is a game winning touchdown for this brewery! Real flavorful and I enjoyed the hell out of this beer.

Bottle thanks to Guyute_Pig: Poured a deep thick oil black with a frothy beige head. Strong malts with some roastiness. Taste is nice smooth silky milk chocolate with edgy dark roasted malts. Has a nitro feel but in a bottle. Very tasty!

Bottle at home, thanks to an IP trade with Michael C, 12/05/13. Light black, extremely dark mahogony brown in the light, with a dirty tan head that soon clears to a swirl and thin edgework. Nose is roast malt, dark fruits, berry fruits, molasses, treacle toffee, tar, brown sugars, light chocolate. Taste comprises roast malts, dark fruits, light booze, licqourice, treacle tart, leather, brown sugars, chocolate backnote. Full end of medium bodied with well pitched fine carbonation keeping this 9%er very drinkable. Decent Impy stout but not top draw, alcohol is well balanced.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a medium brown head and nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is coffee and dark roasted malts; no chocolate in this one. Flavor is the same, coffee forward, with orange-citrus notes. Very light sweetness, medium bitter with a mix of coffee and citrus on the finish. Medium plus body, creamy mouthfeel. Light warming finish shows off the ABV. Nice impy of the not-sweet variety (contrast to Dark Lord or Darkness).

Pours a dark, oily black with minimal head. Aroma of roasted grain, chocolate, coffee. Flavor consists of all of these, along with some licorice, and as has been mentioned elsewhere, a distinctly boozy element--the alcohol is quite noticeable. Good stouts find a way to minimize or camouflage that aspect. Not bad, but not particularly distinguished either.
