Quote from the Global Beer Network website:
As Belgian beer lovers, you certainly know about the famous restaurant-bar in Philadelphia with the name Monk’s Café. This restaurant is known all over the USA as one of the best places to find an extensive selection of Belgian beers, and also great food cooked in Belgian beer. The owner Tom Peters is one of the many people who fell in love years ago with Belgian beer, and one of the few who had the passion and tenacity to learn all about it.
In 2002 he finally had the opportunity, and the courage to convince the Van Steenberge brewery to bottle its famous ‘BIOS – Vlaamse Bourgogne’ under private label for him. The Flemish Burgundy of the Van Steenberge brewery is an old brown in style, aged in oak, and is one of the oldest brews made by the brewery, at least brewed for over 300 years. Tom Peters knew the beer long since, but always had trouble finding some bottles, even in Belgium. Indeed, the beer is only brewed once a year. A final tasting of a whole line of Belgian Old Browns in the Brugs Beertje bar (Brugge) tilted the decision: this is the best old brown ale in the world! And Tom went to the brewery to see Mr. Paul Van Steenberge and Mr. Jef Versele, the owners of the brewery.
Well the rest is history, as they say, but we at the Global Beer Network are very honored to be able to import this fabulous, exceptional Belgian beer in the USA.

It's as good as I remember. Draft in a dark corner booth so it it just looks like a dark cola or root beer.
Sweet and hearty, sour and just a mellow good sipper.
Lots of dark fruit, cherries are most prominent up front, but as it sits I get a pretty distinct grape juice flavor. Pairs excellent with a chicken ceasar salad and tater tots.
Clear reddish body medium foamy off white head. Fruity herbal aroma. Tart cherry fruity herbal flavor. Medium body moderate carbonation. 7/4/8/4/16 3.9

Bottle 33cl. from Gastro Beer, poured into tumbler. Fruity nose. Clear amberbrown colour, good frothy off-white head, dissipating slowly, adhesive lacing. Aroma sweet caramel syrup, dark fruits, cherries, balsamico, wood. Sweet and sour taste, light bitter notes, cherries, candied fruits, light lemon, tart, light woody notes, sticky mouthfeel. Medium body, syrupy sticky texture, soft carbonation, sweet and a bit sourish aftertaste, sugary notes, tart, some tannine, woody accents, sugary, finish towards the sweet side with a light bitter touch, I like this kind of old-fashioned brews (at least with respect to the feel) despite the artifical undertone, thus very nice.
