With Aloha Sculpin, we used Brux Trois yeast to turn our award-winning IPA into a tropical oasis, with bright and refreshing notes of mango, pineapple and guava, along with a slight haze and smooth mouthfeel.

Bottled, from Systembolaget. Almost clear pale amber, rich, firm head. Rich aroma of mango, pine and grapefruit. Mid sweet with medium body and rounded mouthfeel. Fruity with mango and citrus, notes of syrup. Long piney bitter finish. Solid and uncomplicated.

Sampled from the tap at Happy Gnome. Pours a clear gold with a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has bitter citrus and tropical fruits with some resin underlying. Flavor has bitter citrus with some tropical fruits and sweet grains supporting.

Bottle from Total Wine in Sacramento, CA. Pours clear gold with a large foamy white head. Tropicals tickle my nose. Literally. Med body. Flavor is mixed fruits, definitely tropical ones, I think passionfruit. Also something similar to bergamot. Refreshing and flavorful. It's not too dry, but it's hoppy and nicely bitter. Pleasant to drink.

So weird to have to complain about a lack of bitterness in a Sculpin, but here we are. Tropical notes are front and center--mango, pineapple, hell, even passion fruit and melon--with a cracker malt base and some pine and resin on the back end. Apple and lime lurk underneath, yet the finish lacks the expected hop vitriol you want in a Sculpin. This beer's too...nice. Too user-friendly. Pours a hazed gold with a thin white head and good lacing. Subdued nose isn't very Sculpin-like, either. Perfect IPA feel, though. Skippable Sculpin.
