Influential beer author the late Michael Jackson describes “Berlin White Beer” as having an “insistent sparkle, a fragrant fruitiness in the nose, a sharp, dry palate, and a frisson of quenching, sour acidity in the finish.”
North Coast Brewing’s Passion Fruit-Peach Berliner Weisse is made with the juice of peaches from California and passion fruit from Ecuador, a Pan-American take on the German classic.

On tap @ CBF Düsseldorf. Sourish fresh fruity beginning. Smooth and round, moderate sourness, refreshing with a nice fruity sourness. Long fresh fruity aftertaste.

Tasting at SF
Hazy blond color. Delicate passion fruit aroma, very nice. Good body, with some residual sweetness; mild acidity level, blending into the tropical fruit and hints of peach.
Very good.

22 oz. bottle, pours a clear blonde with a small white head. Aroma brings out lots of tropical fruits, peaches and light lacto. Flavour is very fruity, with lots of tropical fruitiness, especially passionfruit, with a touch of peaches, and light lacto. Fresh and fruity, with a touch of sweetness. Fresh and nicely constructed. Excellent.

Pale with a touch of haze. Huge passionfruit on the nose. On the palate, a lot of passionfruit, tart, and not much else. The tartness is really like kettle sour, and a big whack of passionfruit.

On tap at PreFunk Boise Hazy deep golden yellow. Thin white skin and spotty lacing. Slightly funky musty aromas but mostly big time sweet peaches. Flavor also, mostly straight ahead peach. Pretty easy on the tartness. Very tasty if a bit sweet.

On tap at prefunk Boise. Pours out a straw color topped with a white head. Nose is big sweet fruit passion fruit with some peach and a classic Berliner note. Taste is more of the nice passion fruit upfront then the peach and a tart lemon zest on the end.

Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours translucent gold with a white head. Aroma is a bit tart - tropical and peach. Med body or so. The peach is rather juicy, and the outcome is a bit sweet/tart/ Might be a small touch of lacto or pedio in the finish. Or not. Easy drinking sour!

$6.99 clear glass bomber from Beer Run. Hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma is bitter peach, tropical fruit (must be the passion fruit, though I cant say that with certainty). Flavor starts out with sweet fruit juices: peach, passion fruit, pear. Almost tasted like a canned fruit cocktail that’s unsweetened. Then a tinge of orange and tingly spice. This is good. Tart in the finish, but not puckeringly so. I’d drink this any time.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 5/10/2017. Pours fairly hazy deep golden/amber color with a 1-2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin spotty lace cap that lingers. Slight spotty lacing clings on the glass, with a a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of huge juicy/tart/tangy peaches, passion fruit, lemon, lime, green apple, pear, melon, white grape, fruit peels, sea salt, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of hay, grass, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, peaches, passion fruit, and light-moderate pale malt notes; with big strength. Taste of huge juicy/tart/tangy peaches, passion fruit, lemon, lime, green apple, pear, melon, white grape, fruit peels, sea salt, wheat, and cracker; with light notes of hay, grass, lacto funk, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness, fruit tang, and light spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of juicy/tart/tangy peaches, passion fruit, lemon, lime, green apple, pear, melon, white grape, fruit peels, sea salt, wheat, cracker, light lacto funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, peaches, passion fruit, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness balance, and zero puckering flavors after the finish. Moderate dryness from tartness/acidity, increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth, moderately crisp, creamy/grainy, and acidic/tangy balanced mouthfeel that is awesome. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 4.1%. Overall this is a fantastic fruited Berliner weisse! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, peaches, passion fruit, and light-moderate pale malt flavors; very smooth, crisp, and refreshing to drink with the modest acidity/tartness. Enormous amounts of tangy fruit presence, and perfect balance with the base style flavors. A spot on example, never overly sour or lactic on acidity. A highly enjoyable offering.
