This seasonal beer is a limited edition brewed for the short days and long nights of winter. The full body resulting from fermentation in ‘stone Yorkshire squares’ and the luxurious malt character, which will appeal to a broad range of drinkers, is balanced against whole-dried Fuggle and Golding hops with nuances and complexities that should be contemplated before an open fire.

22/9/2018. Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn. Pours deep amber with a small off-white head. Aroma of toffee, malt, sweet biscuit and warming spices. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Full bodied, oily texture, average carbonation.

Bottle from the Ale Stone, Aylstone, Leicester. Orange/brown and mostly clear with a lot of visible carbonation and a cream-coloured head. Fruit loaf, malty notes, Christmas pudding and a bit of banana in the aroma. Taste is sweet with an initial sulphurous note, warming to a toasty jammy flavour near the finish. It's not a great beer, but it's a good beer. Warming, lively and English as hell.

Bottle, shared by Joe. Pours a clear, amber color, with a small, bubbly, off-white head. The aroma is spruce, cloves, butter toffee, light rye, and green wood. Oddly bitter, with a nice, malty sweetness. Medium to heavy body, with a sticky, clinging mouthfeel. This is a mediocre, abrasive beer.

Bottle from Old Town. Pours a clear amber with a full eggshell colored head that lingers. Biscuity malt, light toffee aromas dominate, with some faint grassy notes as it warms. More toffee on the palate, with some light raisin and fig notes. Balanced with a nice sweetness from the malt and peppery hops. --- Beer merged from original tick of Winter Welcome Ale on 25 Nov 2018 at 19:49. Original review text: Backlog

Clear dark amber colour, no head. Aroma is sweet and malty, biscuity and full of of toffee. Flavour is very English, malty and nicely bitter. Fuggles and EKG are very noticeable. Very nice!

Updated february 2026: Pours a clear, nicely intense amber. Average to below average white head, decent persistence and nice lacing. Average intensity in the aroma: caramel malts base with lighter nutty noyes, fruity notes (sweet tangerine and orangeish notes, mainly with a jam-like character to them, but with a lighter hint of fruit under spirit) and a delicate mineral feel. Taste starts sweet as suggested with caramel and ligher nutty flavours, plus light fruitiness (notes as per aroma) and just a hint of spiciness showing up here and there. Finishes on a dry enough, balanced note, with a bit of leafy (tea-like) hops touch. As for the aroma, average intensity; pretty good taste definition. Medium bodied with average, slightly crispy carbonation (a bit higher in carbo higher than your classic english ale); drinks pretty much as you'd expect for a 6% abv beer. Nice strong bitter/winter ale.

Shared 550ml bottle. Pour is clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma of malt, bread and caramel. Taste follows nose. Drinkable, but not very exciting.
