Hoponius Union harmoniously combines lager yeast fermentation and West Coast IPA hops. Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist – it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile.

Hazy golden coloured body with a large, soapy white head, about three centimetres tall. Aroma of crisp grain, a touch of the hops, and more of the lager yeast than anything else - quite strong throughout. Light-bodied; Strong grassy and herbal hoppiness around with a dash of the light malts coming through, almost none of the yeastiness nor other flavours and only a slight bit of the biscuits and grainy malt at the end. Aftertaste shows the crisp hops, but without much support - this is quite pale and very mild without much of the malt or any of the stronger lager characteristics at all noticeable after the nose. Overall, a decent IPL at best with some herbal and grassy notes that define the flavour other than the light body and some additional hops thrown in the mix. Decent to try, but not worth going out of your way to try to find or sample. I sampled this twelve ounce can purchased from Whole Foods in New York (Union Square), New York on 01-December-2017 for US$1,99 sampled in my hotel room here in New York the following day, 02-December-2017.

Can - pretty much exactly what I want an IPL to be - nose and approach are assertive, herbal hops, with moderate bitterness - finish is all clean, mildly sweet, floral lager - the best of both worlds! - could it be drier? A little - is it terribly complex? No. - but it's damn enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle. Pours a honey gold color topped by a medium-sized rocky beige head. Aroma is light grainy malt and tropical fruit hops. First sip is light malt and subtle citrus hops. Very smooth with medium body. Bitter hops come in around midtaste. Very drinkable with nice malt/hop balance. At 6.5% ABV, the alcohol only appears late in finish, though it is unobtrusive. Great clinging lace to boot. Outstanding!

Bottle 35,5 cl. Clear deep golden with a small, white head. Nose is extremely fruity, slightly citrusy. Rich, malty body, again fruity with a potent late bitterness. Very well rounded, extremely smooth. 280916
