BELGIAN-STYLE DARK ALE BREWED WITH CAPE GOOSEBERRIES - 11.7% ABV
6 Geese-A-Laying is a return to the more classic dark and toasty winter ale, following the appropriately blonde 5 Golden Rings. Brewed with cape gooseberries, this malty ale displays notes of plums, dark cherry and bright, citrus-like flavors from the namesake berries.

Sample at Bob's Bar during the Bruery Almost 12 Beers Of Christmas Night! event on 12/05/2019. Murky brown-amber color with a medium ivory white head that dissipates steadily to an outer ring. Small patches of lace. Aroma of dark fruit, yeast, malt and spice. Full-bodied with flavors of Belgian yeast, dark fruit, caramel malt and spice. The finish is fruity with a yeast and berry aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

750 mL bottle, shared with Tim. Pours a murky, brown color, with a big, frothy, tan head. The aroma is toffee, pomegranate, cocoa, brown bread, nutmeg, and red wine. Sweet and sugary, with a fruity, tart flavor. Heavy body, with a thick and chewy palate. This is a nice and fruity beer.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle. Aroma is fairly fruity with lots of dates, raisins, prunes and gooseberris. Some sherry notes with moderately strong malt notes. Caramel, toffee and toasted bread with light chocolate and faint roast notes. Some light alcohol notes. Pours a fairly clear, brown with some auburn hues and a medium sized, thick, dark tan head that recedes to the edges where a small film lingers. Light lacing and moderate length legs. Flavor is fairly sweet with moderately strong caramel and toffee notes. Light toasted bread and chocolate notes.with faint roast. Light alcohol spice and sherry notes. Lots of fruit notes with raisin, prune, plum, dates and gooseberris. Medium to medium light bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and medium alcohol warmth. Overall, a surprisingly nice beer. It's not amazing, but I was worried this would be trash. The alcohol is well hidden and the fruitiness and malt notes are well balanced.

Bottle. Pours clear orange hazel, medium fizzy beige head, dissipates leaving decent lacing. Aroma is Belgian spices, raisin, prune, a bit of dust. Flavor is light plus sweet, light plus bitter, loads of alcohol burn along with dried fruits and berries and a bit of clove. Medium body, kind of harsh with the booze and some late bitterness.

Bottle (courtesy of Phaleslu). Candi sugar, light gooseberry, toffee malt, and straw aroma. Copper with small head. Very sweet brown sugar, gooseberry/plum, toffee malt, and mildly bitter herbal hay flavor. Good body. Light alcohol finish but much less than expected. Pretty good - guess I expected more though.
