This year, the Barley Wine was brewed using a double-boil technique in which we evaporate the beer to a high concentration of sugar, add water back to the wort, and then boil it down again to increase Maillard reaction processes and build up some intense caramelization. We went easy on the hops to allow the malt and bourbon characteristics inherited from the barrels to be the champions of this beer.
The aromas and flavours are intense, and should be enjoyed slowly by serving at room temperature to allow even more layered nuances to shine through and add to the
beautiful complexity of this beer. We hope you enjoy this as much as we do.

Lyx öl provning hos PQ. Drycken doftar ?

Mycket gott.

Bourbon barrel aged barleywine from Norway's superstar Lervig, packed in a two-layered artful cardboard box. Medium thick, quickly opening, shred-lacing, pale yellowish beige, mousy head on a misty deep mahogany brown beer with glowing ruby red hue. Intense aroma of cranberry sauce, reduced brown game stock, toffee, vanilla-scenting oak wood, liquorice, bayleaf, candied fig, walnut liqueur, beef 'bouillon', beef jerky, black cherry, dark brown honey, plum wine, treacle, indeed strong bourbon, chestnut purée, old tawny port, wood glue, cocoa, cognac, nail polish remover. Densely sweet onset, candied fig, yellow raisin, marmalade, soft carbonation, finely tingling on the tongue; thick toffeeish, hazelnutty and milk-chocolatey maltiness with spicy accents, gently dried by woody tannins including lots of vanilla-like oakiness, peppery notes accentuated by bittersweet bourbon-like alcohol, with much more emphasis on sweetness than bitterness. Wonderful barleywine indeed, both its score on this site and its price tag are fully justified. Amazing - another testimony of Lervig's supremacy in Norwegian craft brewing.

Keg at IMBC '19, session 2, 04/10/19. Chestnut brown with a well presented beige cap. Nose is toffee, fruit cake, dark malts, brown sugar melt, dates. Taste comprises fruit cake, sweet malts, mellow bourbon rip, sticky toffee pudding, dates, brown sugar, caramel. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a balanced boost. A more than decent BA BW … drinks well for the ABV.
