English-style barleywine ale aged in bourbon barrels.

There are many storms out there, all of them perfect in their own way. But there is only one Mother of all Storms and it only happens in Pacific City, Oregon. Based on Stormwatcher’s Winterfest, our English-style barleywine, Mother of all Storms spent many months aging in Kentucky bourbon barrels. Now at its peak, Mother of all Storms delivers deep flavors of toasted malt, bourbon and oak. The finish rewards with whispers of vanilla, toffee and caramel. Best enjoyed with gusts exceeding 60 mph.

66cl Bottle at AHBS, 2011 version. Deep dark brown colour, orange-beige head. Aroma of sweet oak, very malty, dark fruits, vanilla, bourbon. Flavour is very sweet, malty, dark fruits, brown sugar, bourbon, nice bittersweet finish. Fullbodied. Although rather sweet, this is really good.

Had this at Ratebeer’s Horny Devil Pittsburgh Winter Tasting 2012. Big thanks to mrchopin for this gem. Very dark beer with no head. The bottle had a very nice gold foil on top. First taste is some oxidation in there I think. Quite alky overall. It’s a little rude to my taste buds. Smell is boozy and alarming. Burns going down the hatch. Strong and rather over the top for this lager lover. Very little co2 in there. Very winelike on the finish. Thanks Kevin for the chance to try this beer!

"A friend brought this to a tasting event tonight! I enjoyed it from a snifter at room temperature. I also let it breathe for a bit in the glass before taking notes. A - Half finger head which goes away quickly. Amber / Brown is what I’d describe the color. Looks like a fine whiskey or bourbon with some carbonation thrown in there. S - You can smell this thing from 6 feet away. The smell is strong and overtakes you. I’m getting Brown sugar, caramel and cinnamon. T - Bourbon with a lot of sugar. TONS of alcohol and astringent notes. M - It’s a very lingering beer. If you like the taste, good but if you don’t, this beer sticks with you for a while and comes back for more even after you’ve had some water. O - I wanted to love this beer. The high ABV is great but in a bottle so large, you have to share it with friends. I’d like to see how this beer holds up after another year or two. There’s just so much heat to it, the taste is almost a put off like it’s overwhelming and unforgiving and just in your face."

Bottle courtesy of Armin. 2011 bottle. Thanks Armin. Deep red brown appearance with a small tan head. Fuck yeah! Rich caramel malty, big whiskey (with minor booze), large vanilla, very nice toffee aroma. Flavor is very rich with lots of caramel, lots of toffee, big vanilla, oak, and plenty of smooth whiskey. Fuck yeah. For 13.5%, this baby is smooth as hell. This is excellent! Thanks ARMIN!
