One of the earliest examples of Russian Imperial Stouts in the United States, Expedition Stout offers immensely complex flavors crafted specifically with aging in mind.

A huge malt body is matched with a heady blend of chocolate, dark fruit and other aromas. The flavors will slowly meld and grow in depth as the beer ages in your cellar.

Shared by Maakun at Maakun back from US tasting. Black with light tan head. Sweet roasted chocolate malts. Molasses, chocolate, sugar cane, heavy roasted note, almost coffee like. Toffee. Big sweet, medium bitter. Full body, sticky heavy slick body. Soft carbonation. Nice.

Bottle shared. Black with small beige head. Lots of dark chocolate, oats, molasses, some bitter coffee, dried leaves, lots of roasted notes with some licorice. Medium sweet and bitter. Full bodied with creamy feel. Great classic imperial stout, nicely balanced.

Flaska från Mikkeller Webbshop. Smak och doft av kaffe, choklad, vanilj, rostade toner, lakrits och karamell. Fin sötma, rund och len, bra balans mellan aromerna som avslutas med en fin beska.

Bottle from beer gonzo. Hard to come by this beer in the UK. Just a casual top 50 beer of a Tuesday evening. A creamy viscous opaque black coloured pour with a lasting dark tan head. Aroma is nicely layered earthy roasted malts, Hickory smoked wood, toasted coconut shaving, treacle and some tangy berry fruits in there as well. Palate is full bodied and creamy, velvety smooth, maybe a little on the sweet side. Moderate carbonation stops it from being overtly cloying. Flavour is composed rich dark chocolate, roasted grains, treacle and bitter liquorice. Rounded sweet finish with some acrid roasted notes. Very enjoyable.

0,355l bottle at home. PKGD (packaged?) 11/06/2015. almost black color, small dark coffee-colored head. smells roasty, light alcohol, coffee, light wood, lightly glueish, some sherry, earthy, also coffee, hints of dried fruits. nice smell. full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes roasty, light licorice, light alcohol, a bit glueish, some dried fruits, raisins. finishes light roasty with notes of raisins and some alcohol. not bad but also not that spectacular. had this at the same time with dark horse plead the 5th, and that one wins by a margin.. overall still very nice beer though.

Almost black. Tan head. Lacing present. Aroma of roast, coffee, brown bread, brandy. Medium to full body. Creamy texture. The flavour a combination of coffee, roast, brandy. Light bitterness. Oh it’s so good.
