This big mother of a Russian Imperial Stout is often considered one of our true classics. Despite the 13% ABV, you'll find Black Albert to be dangerously drinkable. With its thick, tar-like body, it's definitely a sipper, but the alcohol is very well-hidden.

almost black colour, 1 inch cremy borwn head; aroma of cocoa, dried cherry and plum, coffee, some herbal liqueur and woody notes;taste is even more intensive and complex: cocoa, coffee, dried cherry, plum and some berries, oatmeal cake, vanilla and some sourish notes; AMAZING! Not a typical imperial stout with this Belgian-beer sourness, but definitely one of the best imperial stouts I’ve ever tasted

(On tap @ VilleValla Pub, Linköping, Sept 10 2015) Pours black with a small head of pale tan and no lace. Aroma intense dark malts and sweet, dried dark fruits, bittersweet chocolate, toffee, vanilla, cherry, liquorice and a little floral accent. On the palate, rich and unctuous dark malts and dark chocolate, dried fruit, cherry and plum, a bit of coffee and vanilla and moderate roast up front. Roasty character of coffee, vanilla and wood builds in the middle with a bit of hops, leading to a finish with the rich fruity core remaining but dried down with cherry wood and soft roast/hop bitterness. Rich, full mouthfeel with soft carb, not quite viscous, no alcohol. Fruity, elegant and Belgian, this is a great imperial stout, period.

Bottle from Cornelius. Black body with a thick tan head. Light lacing. Aroma of vanilla, creamy coffee and dark chocolate. Flavour of affogato, fruit cake, chocolate, plum pudding and yeast. Thick body with a powdery texture. Soft fizz. Is this really 13% ABV? It goes down as easily as a 6.0% beer. Well balanced and flavoursome.

100 ml sample. Almost black with red highlights. Lots of pear/peardrop in the nose, but also in the taste. Not as roasty and not much coffee like most impies, but more sweet and chocolaty with a strong bitter finish. Good.
