Oude Gueuze is an appellation controlee : its label is protected. It is also known as the champagne of beers, especially as it is only available as a limited edition. Timmermans Oude Gueuze’s special flavour derives from its time-honoured method of preparation. It is a blend of old lambic, which has been aged for three years in wooden barrels, and young lambic which ensures spontaneous fermentation in the bottle. The different lambics are carefully selected by the brewer to obtain a perfect flavour. After it has been produced, Timmermans Oude Gueuze, which is refermented for four months in the bottle, continues to improve for 20 years.
Taste-wise… Discovering the world of the Brettanomyces, the name given to the spontaneously fermenting wild yeast at the heart of the legendary lambics of the Senne Valley, is a fascinating experience. This little marvel of bitter flavour will win you over by its subtlety of taste in which lambic never means sourness. A wild and fresh aroma is combined with a completely emancipated taste from the very first sip, leaving a flavour of authenticity on the palate while maintaining all the mystery of the Brussels gueuzes.

(Bottle, 0.375 l - BB 31.12.2038 - brewed 2015 - bottled 2018, from Alko, 20190524) The beer poured golden and hazy. Its head was quite large and white. Aroma had fruitiness, stomach acid and wood. Palate was medium bodied and dry with rather high carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, sourness, tartness, wood, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was woody, sour and bitter. A pleasant gueuze with sweet maltiness. The palate was too fizzy.

Lots of good socks and grapes and funk smell coming off this one. And it follows through with the taste. Nice tart grape funkiness, mild sweet supporting. Lingering tartness.

wonderfully tart, quite acidic, strong but smooth sourness. poured quite cloudy, but doesn’t have that taste. There is a good funk on the nose that complements the beer nicely. Belgian beer factory online order

0,375l bottle at home. Bottled 2016. BB 2036. amber clear color, medium big white head. smells earthy, wood, grassy, bit citric, some funk, light cheese, very subtle but still very nice smell. full body, very pearly carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes very funky, cheesy, citric, grassy, earthy, some wood, lightly floral towards the finish. finishes dry and light to medium sour with a good amount of funk, citrus and some wood and peppery notes. very nice one, finish is almost a bit too malty (a bit too heavy), but overall very crisp and very good to drink. carbonation is also almost a bit too fizzy. overall very good one though.

Fles gedeelt door Roelzie1986. Het is een troebel geel bier met een volle witte schuimkraag. Het heeft een zurige geur. De smaak is zurig en wat droog.
