Some things are just meant to be.
From the beginning, this beer begged for the barrel. Brewed with pale malt and six different specialty malts, fermented with our proprietary yeast, then aged for six months in whiskey barrels with whole Madagascar vanilla beans, the beer pours a deep mahogany with a dense tan head. Aromas of bourbon, cocoa and vanilla emerge from the smooth, rich body, leading to a luscious, dry, roasted finish.
This is truly an indulgence to savor.

Bottle. A- Cocoa, mild vanilla, mild char. A- Dark brown color, dark liquid, beige head. T- Roasty, mild char, cocoa powder, subtle whisky, vanilla. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- Not bad. I do wish there was more smoke of course but it's a good beer. A fair amount of vanilla and cocoa powder. The barrel aging is there but not pronounced.

Rating number 4500. 12 ounce bottle. Vintage 2020. ABV of 10.4%, not 9.5% as listed in beer details on this page. Opaque black color. Small bubbly tan head. Subtle roasted malt aroma. Hints of Bourbon and smoke. First sip brings notes of dark malt, oak, bourbon and light smoke. Vanilla is barely noticeable. A bit thin bodied for the style. Some chocolate notes in middle. Warming alcohol comes through as well. Certainly complex. Sticky mouthfeel. Long bitter finish and aftertaste. Might benefit from some aging to develop the layers of flavors.

Grabbed from brewery curbside pickup. Deep dark brown pour and nice frothy head. Nose is vanilla and chocolate. Tastes of espresso m, chocolate, vanilla in nice rich way, hints of boozy bourbon. Smooth palate. Quite pleasant haven’t had a nice boozy brew in a bit.

Disappointingly one-note, with a cola-like front never bothering to develop much depth beyond a slight bourbon sweetness on the back end. No trace of smoke whatsoever, and the finish, while dry, offers up a mild oaked bitterness and nothing else. Seems mildly overcarbonated as well, the harsh texture not welcoming much more exploration into the pint. Skippable.

12 ounce bottle from Total Wine Greenfield, 5/25/19. Dark brown, thin fizzy brown head, good retention. Aroma of strong vanilla and whiskey, hints of smoke. Taste is roast, chocolate, vanilla, oak, whiskey. Medium bodied, overly sweet, smoke is barely there. Disappointing.

Bottle - flavor and nose of bourbon, oak, vanilla - the spirit barrel adds a spiciness that tastes like deep cinnamon and nutmeg - toasted marshmallow, dark chocolate - my only gripe here is that the smoke seems to have been subsumed by the barrel and adjunct treatment - otherwise, it’s quite tasty.

Strong vanilla, chocolate nose, bourbon underneath. Cola black, medium tan head. Vanilla, coffee, marzipan, Medium body, soft, creamy, slightly warm. Bourbon is present but unassertive. That's fine with me. Not much in the way of smoke, but the vanilla is king in this.

Sampled from the tap at Happy Gnome. Pours black with a wood brown head that dissipates slowly to the edges. Aroma has vanilla and bourbon supported by roast and smoke notes. Flavor has lots of vanilla with a bourbon bite and light smoke and roasted malts backing.
