Aged in bourbon barrels for 8 months, Bourbon Barrel Aged Batch 9,000 Ale takes the sweet caramel, molasses and dried fruit aromas of its predecessor and layers on oak, vanilla and bourbon notes. The barrel contribution is definitely present, but doesn’t try to overwhelm the underlying beer.
The goal is to showcase the beer, not the bourbon, with the result being an exceptionally smooth beer with complexity and depth that defies easy classification as an Imperial Stout or Barleywine or otherwise.

4oz draft pitch black with a dark tan, light brown head pour. I had remembered the 9000 as being heavy on licorice, which was pretty absent in this particular one. Instead this beer had a solid woody bourbon one, some vanilla, and then coffee and malts. Flavor was about the same, with plenty of woody bourbon notes - vanilla, light coffee notes.

On draft at rustico. Pours black with a tan head. Deep caramel aroma. Cavalcade of flavors - sweet, boozy, dark cherries, chocolate and vanilla. Fabulous.
