Aged in bourbon barrels for 8 months, Bourbon Barrel Aged Batch 9,000 Ale takes the sweet caramel, molasses and dried fruit aromas of its predecessor and layers on oak, vanilla and bourbon notes. The barrel contribution is definitely present, but doesn’t try to overwhelm the underlying beer.
The goal is to showcase the beer, not the bourbon, with the result being an exceptionally smooth beer with complexity and depth that defies easy classification as an Imperial Stout or Barleywine or otherwise.

Bottle huge thanks to B3shine. Thanks Beau. Pours a deep black hue with a reddish brown head. A huge nose dominated by sweet bourbon, some sugary notes. A sweet fruity flavor much like the regular 9000 is there, dark fruits, molasses, fruit syrup, but also huge bourbon note,s vanilla and wood. Dry at times. Damn good. Decadent. Hot really hot at all despite the ABV. We could use an iced version....!

Tap at Trion. Sweet sugary bourbon, vanilla, and oak aroma. Deep mahogany with a small tan head. Sweet boozy bourbon, oak, and vanilla flavor. Full sticky body, low carbonation, light alcohol burn. Huge syrupy sweet beer, a bit much for me, but still very good.

Keg at Kickbacks, RBWG. Pours dark, red-brown with a small, creamy tan head. Lovely aroma, lots of sugary dark fruits, brown sugar, hints of chocolate. Big sweet flavor with rich, ripe dark fruits, raisins, brown sugar, rich bread. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish, a touch chewy, hints of burnt wood, dark cherries, raisins, mellowed alcohol. Delicious stuff, rich, smooth, incredibly balanced. Wonderful.

Bottle #48/1502. The beer pours a dark brownish-black color with a medium tan head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Bourbon, malt and vanilla in the nose. Full-bodied with a boozy character and flavors of oaky vanilla, roasted malt and dark fruit. The finish is oaky with a lingering bourbon and vanilla aftertaste. Very good beer all around.

Definitely better than the normal 9000 batch. Potent. Aroma of cherry, oak, syrupy roast malt and booze - lots of it. Pours black with very thick consistency. palate super complex and more balanced than regular 9000 even if off kilter here and there. Taste bitter and very sweet. Low carbonation. Tap at Bells.

Draft at Reno’s East, East Lansing. Deep opaque brown-black body, thin head/ring of cream-colored carbonation. Oily nose, oaky, with lots of bourbon that fades and reveals rich depths of coffee, cocoa, molasses, and burnt sugars, in addition to warming alcohol. The body begins with a honey-like sharp, prickly sweetness, hot, with lots of bourbon, oak, and alcohol, also with elements of toast, rum pudding, toffee, and a graham cracker finish. Very sweet, rich, and hot. A slow-sipping but ultimately rewarding beer.

So poor coyotehunter gave us this bottle so we could fish while he worked this weekend. I told him I was going to catch all his fish and drink his share of beer. Send him a note of encouragement if you feel like but the poor bastard needs some love after this. Pour is a dark brown with little head. I’m choosing on thick soy and brown sugar aromas. Flavor is a thick and syrupy soy sauce with molasses and brown sugar. Maybe there is a little bit of bourbon and walnut. Too much and too heavy for this guy.
