La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big oak barrels known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it's considered one of the best sour beers around.

Bottle from Elmanana. Many thanks! Red colour, white foam. Medium carbonation. Aroma of red berries, balsamico, vinegar, lemon. bitter earthy notes. Refreshing, but not very well balanced. I like Rodenbach Vintage much better!

Tap at Mikkeller Stockholm. Dark ruby red beer with almost no head. Aroma and taste of sour cherry, vanilla, oak and cranberry. Very enjoyable!

2015 vintage. Dark amber color with big nice beige head. Aroma of apples, dark malts, a bit tobacco/burnt malts even. Taste is heavy, malty, fruits, very dry, a bit taninic, lots of wood, not too sour. Carbonation is foamy. Nice, but underwhelming. Not Top 10 Sour Red material imho. I hear other vintages are better, but this is also quite young.

Mycket gott!

Thanks for sharing! Sampled 650 ml. bottle @ Leuven Innovation Beer Festival. 2015 version. Deep pomegranate, deep cherry,… Nose is hugely acidic cherry, puckering, lemon acidic & very acidic foeder,… Taste is lightly lactic, rather muted, lightly metallic, acidic, empty jam, puckering, bit thin & hollow, thinner than expected,… Decent & not bad at all but I expected much more. Expectations failed me here.

Classic "New Belgian oud bruin" so to speak, a standard in the style as far as American beers are concerned. Yellowish white, loose head, hazy coppery red brown colour. Aroma indeed of ’oud bruin’ Rodenbach style: sour cherries, passion fruit, yoghurt, strong redcurrant, some caramel, wood, hint of lemon; sweet and sour taste, very fruity and estery, cherries, passion fruit and red berries; smooth caramelly malt backbone, bready, dryingly sourish finish with just a tad of leafy hops for balance and structure as well as some woody dryness. Perfectly fine example of the style, though it seems to lack some body, finesse and depth in comparison with, for example, Rodenbach Vintage.
